Thur. 11:05 a.m.: Judge denies stay of license revocation for California Palms

YOUNGSTOWN — Judge Maureen Sweeney of Mahoning County Common Pleas Court today denied a motion by California Palms Recovery Campus in Austintown to halt the implementation of an order to remove the facility’s license.

The civil action attempted to hold off an order one month ago by the Ohio Department of Mental Health and Addiction Services that California Palms would lose its certification to operate an alcohol and drug treatment center, effective today.

Sebastian Rucci, owner of California Palms, said today he would keep the facility open even if he lost his state license, which allows him to bill Medicaid. “I just won’t get paid,” Rucci said.

Duane Piccirilli, executive director of the Mahoning County Mental Health and Recovery Board, said anyone being dislocated by the loss of the California Palms license can call 211 and find a new place to receive treatment.
