Halloween decoration inflates hostility

YOUNGSTOWN — Tempers flared Monday among several people in a car and a man living on Oregon Avenue on the West Side over his Halloween decoration.

The man, 36, said a girl about 13 years old knocked on his door about 4:13 p.m. She was joined by a woman about 25 to 30 years old, and they both accused him of stealing the 12-foot inflatable grim reaper with a pumpkin head and putting it up in his front yard.

The man told them he did not steal the Halloween display from them.

But the woman then grabbed the decoration and carried it to her gold four-door car and put it inside. At the same time, a man about 25 to 30 years old got out of the car and brandished a black rifle, pointing it at the victim, saying: “If you want it back, come to Hartford.”

The woman and man then drove away, leaving the girl behind. About two minutes later, however, the car returned and the girl got inside before the vehicle left again.

The resident pulled up his video doorbell, which showed the adult woman taking the decoration, which the report valued at about $200.

An officer drove down Hartford Avenue but was unable to find a gold car. The two locations are less than a mile from each other.
