The number of patients and staff contracting COVID-19 at Mahoning County nursing homes and assisted living facilities increased, rising from 35 last week to 45 this week.

That also was the case for nursing homes across the state, which rose from 1,321 cases last week to 1,515 this week.

Trumbull County facilities, however, saw a decrease ä falling from six cases last week to three this week, all staff cases. They were at three facilities.

Columbiana County facilities continued to have no cases.

The number of cases in the three local prisons all rose, as did the number of cases at prisons across the state.

One of the notable changes this week at Mahoning County nursing homes and assisted living facilities was the Hampton Woods nursing home in Poland, which had five patient cases and two staff cases this week after having none last week.

Similarly, the Copeland Oaks Rest Home assisted living in Sebring has three patient cases and three staff cases this week after having only one staff case last week. The Wickshire at Poland assisted living has three staff cases this week after having no cases last week.

The number of deaths this week associated with Mahoning Valley nursing homes and assisted living facilities rose by one in Trumbull County, which now has had 161 deaths. Mahoning County remains at 284, and Columbiana County remains at 79.

The Northeast Ohio Correctional Center in Youngstown has 12 staff cases of COVID-19 this week, an increase of three from last week. The Ohio State Penitentiary in Youngstown rose from three cases last week to six this week, and the Trumbull Correctional Institution in Leavittsburg rose from four staff cases to five.

None of the facilities had any inmate cases last week, but NEOCC has one this week, TCI has three, and OSP has none.

The number of prison cases across the state rose from 198 last week to 219 this week. There were 146 staff cases and 73 inmate cases this week.
