School bus, car collide in Youngstown

YOUNGSTOWN — Police are investigating a 7 a.m. Wednesday accident involving a Youngstown City School District bus and a car.

No one was cited after the accident near the corner of West LaClede and Rosedale avenues. A police report was not available Wednesday. Four private school students were on the bus.

“A parent picked up one of the scholars and another bus picked up the other three and took them to school,” school district spokeswoman Denise Dick said. The bus will be taken out of service until an inspection is done, she said.

“We have five buses that are out of service right now,” Dick said. “We expect an inspection later this week. The district currently has a fleet of 80 buses available. The district anticipates at least four of the buses to be returned to the road.”

The district has 20 buses ordered and is using its pandemic relief funds to pay for them. The new buses are expected to arrive and go into service in October. “We plan to order another 15 to 20 buses and expect those to arrive in the spring,” she said.
