Thu. 8:23 a.m.: Man dies from gunshot wounds on Youngstown’s South Side

YOUNGSTOWN — A man in his 30s was shot to death at around 1:50 a.m. today at South and East Lucius avenues on the South Side.

Youngstown police were alerted to gunfire by its ShotSpotter technology, which alerts police to gunfire on the South Side.

Officers arrived within two minutes and found the man lying in the road, police said. Officers began to administer first aid, but the victim died of his wounds, according to a YPD detective division news release.

The Mahoning County Coroner’s Office and Youngstown Police Department detective division are investigating. The name of the victim was not provided.

The last homicide before this was Oct. 17, when Juwuan Howell, 22, was found shot to death in the 400 block of West Evergreen Avenue on the South Side.

Today’s homicide is the 25th of the year. The city had 20 homicides in 2019.
