Thu. 4:49 a.m.: YSU, faculty union reach ‘understanding’; strike ends

YOUNGSTOWN — Youngstown State University released an advisory early this morning indicating that the faculty strike at the university is over.

An email states that the university and YSU Ohio Education Association reached an “understanding for the general framework on a new three-year contract and will work out details for a tentative agreement later today.”

The email states that classes will be held as usual today.

The strike began Monday morning.

Mark Vopat, union spokesman, confirmed this morning that the university advisory is “essentially” correct.

The understanding apparently was worked out in a late-night negotiating session that followed an “unproductive” afternoon session Wednesday. At around 7 p.m. Wednesday, the faculty union issued a press release calling the Wednesday afternoon negotiations unproductive.
