Mon. 10:05 a.m.: Early morning house fire causes ‘pretty extensive’ damage

YOUNGSTOWN — A television was on, but no one was home when firefighters arrived for a 3:30 a.m. house fire at 964 E. Indianola Avenue Monday morning.

Firefighters were unable to identify the resident of the home because no one returned, Youngstown Fire Department Capt. David Cook said.

The South Side home suffered “pretty extensive fire damage to the back of the house,” possibly as much as the value of the home, Cook said. The home had an estimated value of $4,440, according to Mahoning County Auditor’s office records.

The home was locked up when firefighters arrived.

“The TV was on, and it appeared it was being lived in,” Cook said. An investigator was going to look into the cause of the fire Monday morning, which appeared to have started in the back, Cook said.

Neighbors reported the fire.
