Ohio 2 p.m. update: 24 dead from COVID-19 in Valley, including 5 new cases

There are at least 91 COVID-19 confirmed deaths in the state as of today, including 24 in the Mahoning Valley, according to the daily 2 p.m. update from the Ohio Department of Health.

That is up from 81 confirmed deaths statewide and 19 in the Valley Thursday.

The new deaths in the area are one each in Mahoning and Trumbull counties and three in Columbiana County. The Ohio Department of Health listed only one new death in Columbiana County, but that county’s health district this morning said two others are also dead.

There are now 12 deaths in Mahoning, seven in Trumbull and five in Columbiana counties.

There are 3,312 confirmed cases of the virus in the state today, up from 2,902 Thursday, according to the Ohio Department of Health.

There are 203 cases in Mahoning County, up from 192 Thursday. Mahoning continues to have the highest per capita number of cases and deaths from the virus.

There are 72 cases in Trumbull County, up from 68 Thursday.

In Columbiana County, there are 28 cases, up from 22 a day earlier.

Statewide, 895 people have been hospitalized as of today because of COVID-19, up from 802 Thursday.

Also, there are 288 people in intensive-care units, up from 260 a day earlier.
