Youngstown police seek ‘cold blooded killer’

YOUNGSTOWN — Police Chief Robin Lees said law enforcement is looking for “pretty much a cold blooded killer,” Robert Shelton, 44, who shot a man right in front of police officers outside of the Power Classic Cars Club early Sunday.

An arrest warrant has been issued for Shelton.

Lees said Shelton had gone outside after two other men had shot and killed each other inside of the club. Shelton shot and killed Dymond D. Ortello, 34, as officers were attending to a bystander who had been shot in the shoulder, Lees said. The two officers had just arrived at the Logan Avenue club at the time.

Shelton hid behind a vehicle, and officers were about to have a gun battle with him, when another bystander got in between officers and Shelton, who then fled and got away.

That scenario was part of the “chaotic scene” officers mentioned in the hours after the 3:45 a.m. shootings that killed three men and injured one other male and one female, who are expected to survive.

Lees and one of his detectives discussed the case with reporters this afternoon, after Mayor Jamel Tito Brown spoke privately in the Youngstown City Council caucus room with local leaders.

During the press conference, many of them spoke about the need for the public to come forward and help police solve such crimes and for people to “be kinder to each other.”
