Mon. 10:48 a.m.: Adamczak declared winner of Youngstown council race

YOUNGSTOWN — Incumbent Democrat Basia Adamczak was declared the winner today in Youngstown City Council’s 7th Ward race.

The Mahoning County Board of Elections met to count provisional ballots and late-arriving absentee votes.

On election night, Adamczak and Donald P. Scott, a retired Youngstown police officer, were tied with 567 votes each.

Today, the final results had Adamczak as the winner 580 to 573.

Meanwhile, Scott filed a challenge with the board contending Adamczak doesn’t live at the Aberdeen Avenue address she listed on her voter registration and other election documents.

Mark A. Hanni, an attorney representing Scott, said the objection, if upheld, wouldn’t change the outcome of the election. But if Adamczak is convicted of falsification, she would have to give up her council seat.
