Community News: Writers group to. meet in Austintown

WRITERS TO MEET: The Monday Night Writers will meet 5 p.m. Monday at Leana’s Books and More, 4317 Kirk Road, Austintown. Area writers, both published and unpublished, are invited to attend. The group is led by author Nancy Christie. For information, contact Christie at nancy@nancy-christie.com.

SOUND BATH: Unity Spiritual Centre, 1226 Naylor Lloyd Road, Liberty, will host a sound bath at 7 p.m. Wednesday, conducted by Maria and Calvin Wagner of the Center for Sound Therapy in Boardman.

Doors open at 6:30 p.m. Participants are asked to dress comfortably and bring pillows or blankets as desired. A love offering of $20 is suggested. For questions, call 330-539-0122.

WWII GROUP TO MEET: John Barnett will portray a World War II German prisoner of war when he speaks to the World War II Heritage Society Monday at Ala Carte Catering in Canfield. Barnett is a native of Carrollton and spent his career working for the railroad.

HEALTH SCREENING: The Western Reserve Joint Fire District EMTs and the Lions Club of Poland are co-sponsoring a health screening event 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday at the Poland Library, 311 S. Main St. The event is free; no appointments are necessary.

Screenings include pulse oximeter, blood pressure, glucose, eye screenings and more.

CREATE FOR A CAUSE: The HELMS Foundation brings the community together for Splatterfest on Saturday at Penguin City Brewing in downtown Youngstown.

From Color to Chaos: Canvases and Community, a family-friendly event, will be 2 to 5 p.m.

Art After Dark: Cocktails and Canvases, for those 21 and older, will be 7 to 10 p.m.

Guests can participate in a variety of art-based experiences from body hydro-marbling and glow-paint splatter rooms to painting clay gratitude leaves for a community “Tree of Thanks.”

The event will also feature local food vendors, music, and opportunities to meet the artists and therapists behind HELMS’ impact.

Funds raised will support local art therapy programs, materials and outreach initiatives.
