ART CELEBRATION: On Saturday, Honeycomb Arts And Wellness Collective presents “Looking Back and Reaching Forward, an art celebration.”
The featured artist this year is Scott Pergande.
The Youngstown Dance Collective performs at 7:30 p.m. and Black Wolf and the Thief will play at 8 p.m. as part of “Small Spaces, Big Voices” monthly music series in the Red Room at Coy Cornelius and Judy Rogers studios, 1931 Belmont Ave., Youngstown.

GOLF BENEFIT: Preparations are underway for the 2024 Annual Police & Firefighters Golf Benefit, to be held Aug. 31 at Salem Golf Club, 1967 S. Lincoln Ave., Salem. The Police & Firefighters Committee is offering a free day, which includes lunch, 18 hole scramble and an appreciation dinner for our “Area’s Finest.”
Proceeds will benefit the “Police & Firefighters Fund” at the Salem Community Foundation, for future education or equipment.
Registration is at noon with a shotgun start at 1 p.m.
A steak dinner with door prizes and raffles will begin at 5:30 p.m.

CLASSIC CAR SHOW: Abundant Life Fellowship, 46469 state Route 46, will host its annual Classic Car Show from 4 to 7 p.m. Sunday, in the church parking lot.
Registration will begin at 3 p.m. for the show which is sponsored by The Belonging ministry for girls and women. All proceeds will go toward a future conference presented by The Belonging.
All makes and models of cars, trucks, motorcycles and dirt bikes are invited. Trophies will be awarded for: Mayor’s Choice; Pastors’ Choice and Public Choice in first, second and third places. Dash plaques will be available to the first 50 entries.
A Chinese auction will be conducted as will a 50/50 raffle. Grill food will all be available for purchase.

DOG PARK OPENING: The Marjorie Hartman Struthers Unleashed Dog Park is set to open to the public 5 p.m. Saturday with a community festival sponsored by nonprofit Struthers Unleashed.
The park is located at Grimm Nebo Field at the end of East Haywood Street and features a 50-by-140-foot fenced area with separate sections for large and small dogs.
The park is free to use and funded by the Marjorie Hartman Foundation, the Struthers Rotary and private donations.
BEEKEEPERS TO MEET: The Columbiana and Mahoning County Beekeepers Association will meet 2 p.m. Sunday at the Austintown Senior Center, 112 Westchester Drive, Austintown.
Members will discuss fair entries, and planning and setting up for participation in the Canfield Fair.
A social potluck will be 1 p.m., followed by the meeting. Anyone interested in beekeeping is welcome to attend.
AUGUST DANCE: The local USA Dance Youngstown Warren Chapter is sponsoring an August Dance 5 p.m. Sunday at Avon Oaks Ballroom, 1401 N. State St., Girard. The evening features ballroom dance lessons with general dancing from 6:15 to 9 p.m.
Cost is $10 for club members, $15 for non-members and $3 students. Dances are open to the public.
TQGIBT MEET: That Quilt Group I Belong To invites the public to attend their next meeting, 7 p.m. Tuesday in the Rotary Building at Fair Park on Oak Street in Canfield.
The group meets on the third Tuesday of each month at Fair Park in Canfield. They welcome quilters of all skill levels, from beginner to expert. Doors usually open at 6:30 p.m.
These philanthropic stitchers make regular donations to Hospice of the Valley, Akron Children’s Hospital, Beatitude House, Sleep in Heavenly Peace and more.
This meeting will be the group’s annual ice cream social. A pattern for ice cream blocks will be distributed for quilters to assemble at home and return in September. A new monthly program will be introduced,”Foot of the Month” and “Notion of the Month.” There will also be a demonstration on quilt facing.

This community resource is free to all and has been funded fully by the Marjorie Hartman Foundation, the Struthers Rotary and private donations. To celebrate the grand opening, Struthers Unleashed, the nonprofit behind the project, has organized a community festival 5 to 8 p.m. Saturday.
The event will include a ribbon cutting ceremony at 5 p.m., followed by live music by Tyler Guerrieri, face painting, dog adoptions, food and refreshments from Hot Diggity Dog, and dog-themed giveaways.
RAYEN 1964: The Rayen School Class of 1964 will celebrate the 60th anniversary of its graduation Friday and Saturday, with a Friday in the park at the Birch Hill Cabin / Lily Pond in Mill Creek Park and a Saturday dinner at Cassesse’s MVR. Events on both days start at 5 p.m. There is a $50 per person, $75 per couple charge for the dinner only. At the park there will be refreshments for the free event. Reservations are necessary. STUFF THE BUS: Huntington Bank is donating backpacks to students in Mahoning, Trumbull, Columbiana and Mercer counties to help children get ready for the 2024-25 school year. The giveaway is part of Huntington’s annual backpack and “Stuff the Bus” program in partnership with the United Way. Employees from Huntington will be packing the backpacks with school supplies at 9:30 a.m. today at the United Way of Youngstown’s Volunteer Resource Center at 8133 Market St., Boardman. They will be joined by employees of Great Clips. The backpacks are then distributed directly to schools identified by United Way.
CALL FOR APPLICATIONS: The Rotary Club of Youngstown is calling for applications for its STEM and STEAM Mini Grant Program for Educators. Awards with a monetary value up to $500 will be given to applicants from public and private schools grades K-8 in Youngstown. A committee of Rotary Club of Youngstown members will review the applications and announce the selected awardees by Aug. 31.
In addition, Rotary Club of Youngstown is supporting downtown area institutions’ participation in the First Friday events presented by Youngstown CityScape. The $3,500 in Rotaryclipse funding will be used to assist The Butler Institute of American Art and SMARTS Community Art School’s outreach efforts on South Phelps Street during the events and help underwrite extended hours for Oh Wow! The Roger & Gloria Jones Children’s Center for Science & Technology.
Funding for the program comes from the more than $7,000 raised from the Rotaryclipse event at Penguin City Brewing Co. the day before the total solar eclipse in April.
CWC GARDEN EVENTS: The Columbiana Women’s Club will have a panel of OCES Master Gardeners as guests of the club’s 2024 Garden Event at Idabelle Firestone’s Gathering Place & Garden. They will discuss “Harvesting & Preserving” and “Careers in Gardening & Horticulture” on Thursday.

KNITTING GUILD MEETING: The Western Reserve Knitting Guild will meet 6 p.m. Tuesday at Fair Park, Rotary building, 82-84 Fair St., Canfield. A business meeting and an educational program are included.
The guild has been collecting knitted hats for local children for the past decade. The hats are donated by guild members and nonmembers with the specification that they must be machine washable. Marilyn Dunn has been the longstanding organizer for hat collections and deliveries.

FAMILY FUN DAY: Austintown Community Events will host the inaugural Austintown Family Fun Day starting at 9 a.m. Saturday on Patriot Boulevard. This family friendly event will include several bands, bounce houses and slides, a petting zoo, a magic show, an Artisan market, a Power Wheels race, a Little Miss and Mr. Austintown Pageant and more. In cooperation with Quaker Steak & Lube, Cracker Barrel and Harley Davidson Biker Brewhouse, guests will be able to walk between venues and enjoy the different activities on stage and on the grounds.
WHEELCHAIR COLLECTION: Wheels for the World, a program of Joni and Friends, is collecting wheelchairs 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday at the Upper Room Fellowship, 500 Sponseller Drive, Columbiana. All donated wheelchairs are transported to Wheel for the World Restoration Centers located in correctional facilities where inmates restore the wheelchairs to a like-new condition. The equipment is then transported to U.S. ports for shipping to developing countries around the world. VIRTUAL TOUR: A live online streamed presentation by Smithsonian National Air and Space Museum Curator Dr. Jennifer Levasseur, will be 2 p.m. Wednesday.
The public can virtually step inside one of the greatest international achievements with a behind-the-scenes guide to space exploration with Levasseur, who will guide participants through the Smithsonian’s “Behind the Scenes at the Space Station” and take them on a once-in-a-lifetime virtual tour of the International Space Station.

TRUNK TO TREASURE SALE: St. Christine Roman Catholic Church, 3165 S. Schenley Ave., Youngstown, is hosting a Trunk to Treasure Sale from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. today in the church parking lot.
