MEN’S DAY: Third Christian Church, 241 First St. SW, Warren, will host a Men’s Day 11 a.m. Sunday hosted by the church’s Men’s Fellowship with guest speaker Mason Green.

Starting in September, the church will celebrate its 101st year with an event at 11 a.m. each Sunday.

APPRECIATION SET: The community of St. Robert Bellarmarine Church in Cortland will come together Sunday for the retirement of Sandy Bailey, director of religious education. During her 26 years, Bailey’s many leadership roles were the coordination and instruction of the Confraternity of Christian Doctrine, Youth Ministry, Rights of Christian Initiation, Bible Studies, and various other parish / community activities.

FREE CONCERT: Girard Presbyterian Church, 890 Churchill Road, will host a free concert with Rudy and the Professionals 2 p.m. Sunday. Those attending can bring a lawn chair.

BIBLE STUDY: The First Church of Warren, 251 Surrey Road SE, Warren, will host a Bible study noon to 1 p.m. each Sunday following the 10:45 a.m. worship. The topic is the Book of Revelation.

SPEAKER SERIES: The First Friday Club of Greater Youngstown Speaker Series 2021-22 season will begin with Bishop David Bonnar of the Diocese of Youngstown on Sept. 2 at Avion on the Water Banquet Center, 2177 W. Western Reserve Road, Canfield. Registration for the dinner opens at 5:30 p.m. and dinner is served at 6 p.m. The bishop’s talk begins at 6:30 p.m. Bonnar will present his address,”That All May Be One.” The cost is $18. DIVINE REVERSAL: World Harvest Ministries, 4 Summit St., Niles, will host a Divine Reversal each evening today to Thursday.

COMMUNITY EVENT: St. Elizabeth Ann Seton in Warren will host a community dinner noon to 1:30 p.m. Sept. 4 at the St. James White Hall, Burton Street.

TORAH STUDIES: Villa Maria Education Spirituality Center will host a Torah Studies for Christians virtual series via Zoom 7 p.m. the first Wednesday of each month from September to January, except October. The event is cosponsored by Rabbi Joseph Schonberger, spiritual leader at Temple El Emeth in Youngstown, The Sept. 1 session is “The Historian Josephus: Who, What Why.”

The Bible education series is an opportunity for Christians to reflect on the Scriptures using video resources. The Rev. George Balasko is the co-creator of the Jewish / Christian dialogue with the late Rabbi Samuel Meyer of Temple El Emeth in Liberty.

Cost is a free will offering. Registration is not required and the Zoom link is available on the center’s website or call 724-964-8886.

DAY OF PRAYER: Unity Spiritual Centre, 1226 Naylor Lloyd Road in Liberty, will celebrate Worldwide Day of Prayer with a week of activities culminating in a formal observance of Day of Prayer on Sept. 9. The theme is “No Matter the Circumstance, All is Well with My Soul.”

Services will begin 11 a.m. Sept. 5 with a lesson “Life is a Prayer.” At 7 p.m. Sept. 5, Larry and Karen Etheredge will facilitate “A Course in Miracles Group” with “Readings of the Soul.” Also scheduled at 7 p.m. Sept. 6 is “Meditation Movements,” and at 7 p.m. Sept. 7, the Rev. Rose Houston will conduct “Atlantis Mandala Healing.” At 7 p.m. Sept. 8, the Unity Centre’s Music Team will entertain with selections supportive of this year’s affirmation.

On Sept. 9, the sanctuary will be open between 9 a.m. and 6 p.m. to all people for prayer and meditation. Houston will be available 1 to 3 p.m. for individual prayers. Call the centre at 330-539-0122.

LABYRINTH WALK: The Ursuline Education and Wellness Center, 4280 Shields Road, is offering its labyrinth which is open year-round from dawn to dusk for all persons of faith. There is no cost to use the labyrinth, which is accessible for different physical abilities and offers ample parking. Printed guides provided at the labyrinth’s entrance give suggestions for following the path, but there is no right or wrong way to experience the sacred walk. FOOD FEST: St. Columba Cathedral in Youngstown will have its second annual international food festival as a carryout option only on Sept. 17 at the church hall.

Combos are $15 each and can be picked up 11 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. in the parking lot between the church and the Williamson College of Business Administration at Youngstown State University. No checks or credit cards will be accepted as this is a cash-only event. Orders can be paid for at pickup, but paying in advance is preferred.

There are five options to choose from: an Eastern European feast, an Italian feast, a Mexican feast, an American feast and a dessert sampler. The dinners also include a salad, a dessert and either a can of pop or a bottle of water.

Orders also will be taken after the weekend Masses at 4 p.m. Saturdays, and 10:30 a.m. and 4 p.m. Sundays through Sept. 12. All proceeds go to the educational fund at St. Columba.

STUDY GROUP: The Unity Spiritual Centre, 1226 Naylor Lloyd Road, Liberty, will host a new book study group 6:30 to 8 p.m. starting Sept. 15. The Rev. Cay Tomerlin and Reed Broadway will facilitate the discussion of “Home with God” by Neale Donald Walsch. “Home with God” is a continuation of Walsch’s “Conversations with God” series and deals specifically with the subject of death and life afterward. COUNTRY FAIR: The Youngstown South Christian Women’s Connection will host a luncheon and auction 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. Sept. 8 at Avion on the Water Banquet Center, 2177 W. Western Reserve Road, Canfield. Marty Campana will be the auctioneer and guest speaker will be Mary Boling of Avon, Ind., who will speak on “Joy Through the Journey.” Donations for the auction are due at 10:30 a.m. and can be items that have been purchased — such as new or gently used jewelry, purses, scarves and pins — handmade, baked or grown. Cost is $14, which includes lunch. Doors open at 10:45 a.m. for the auction preview. Reservations are due by Wednesday by calling Connie at 330-788-2340, Patty at 330-332-2789 or Gloria at 330-360-2044. All proceeds benefit Stonecroft Ministries, which is the umbrella organization for YSCWC.

PRAISE ON PATIO: Simple Gifts Interfaith Choir will host a hymn sing “Praise on the Patio” 7 p.m. Sunday at First Presbyterian Church of Hubbard, 22 Westview Ave. The 45-voice choir will be singing classic, gospel and contemporary hymn favorites. Guest musicians will accompany on keyboard, guitar, flute and percussion. The event is free and will be outside but will move inside if there is inclement weather. Some seating is available, but guests should take a lawn chair just in case.

CHURCH HOMECOMING: Bristolville Freewill Baptist Church, 20087 Greenville Road, will host its homecoming 10 a.m. Sunday with singing by the Gospel Harmonaires.

GOLDEN STREET SINGERS: McKinley Community Church, 1524 Elm Road NE, Warren, will have guest speaker Charles Jarvis delivering the message and the Golden Street Singers will provide special music at the 10:30 a.m. worship service Sunday.

BACK TO SCHOOL: Greater Apostolic Faith Church, 3571 Tod Ave. NW, Warren, will host a Back to School event for Trumbull County children and parents 1:30 to 7 p.m. today that will include a school supply giveaway. The event is hosted by the church’s Children’s Church.

The topic is “The Maimonides Controversy: Did he influence St. Thomas Aquinas?”

Participants need not attend all sessions in this series. The Zoom link will be available on the center’s website. Registration is not required. A free-will offering will be accepted.

Bailey’s professional career included auditor for bankruptcy filings with the United States District Court in Akron and later as a fourth, fifth and junior high teacher at Immaculate Conception Church in Ravenna. There, she was promoted to Director of Religious Education before arriving at St. Robert in 1994 as the DRE.

BACK TO SCHOOL FEST: One Village Community Outreach and No Child Left Behind will host a Back to School Festival drive-thru giveaway 1 to 3:30 p.m. Aug. 22 at Perkins Park pavilion. The Warren City Health Department will give COVID-19 vaccinations.

ASSUMPTION CELEBRATION: Christ the Good Shepherd-St. Lucy Church, 394 Tenney Ave., Campbell, will host a traditional Assumption celebration with 11:30 a.m. Mass Sunday with Bishop David Bonnar of the Diocese of Youngstown as celebrant, followed by the traditional procession through the streets and culminating with a reception at the Palermo Center following benediction.

SOUL COLLAGE: Unity Church Centre in Liberty will offer an online class, “SoulCollage,” 11 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Saturdays through Aug. 28. The method develops creativity and intuition, encourages self-discovery and provides personal guidance.

CHURCH WELCOMES PASTOR: Coalburg First United Methodist Church, 1960 Wick Campbell Road, Hubbard, has welcomed Pastor Sam Mohn as its new minister. Mohn, a Girard native, recently received his official license for the ministry from the First United Methodist Church Conference. He had previously served at Niles First United Methodist Church. Mohn also has directed church choirs.

GIVEAWAY: Corner House Christian Church, Hubbard, will host a nonperishable food giveaway noon to 2 p.m. the third Thursday of each month. No identification is needed.

LIVING COSMOLOGY: Villa Maria Education and Spirituality Center will offer the virtual program Living Cosmology Reflected in Pope Francis, 1 p.m. Aug. 28 via Zoom. The mini-retreat of 90 minutes looks through this doorway of cosmological identity as a spiritual journey possessing inherent values. These are cosmological tendencies and Gospel ideals aptly mirrored in the teachings of Pope Francis. Cost is $20 with the Zoom link to be sent to all who are registered. Recommended resources will be sent to participants upon registration.

MEN OF FAITH: Trumbull County Men of Faith will meet 9 a.m. today at 3217 Surrey Road SE, Warren, with guest speaker, Fred Schrock, an American Christian whose life had been spared twice in the Vietnam War. Schrock served in the U.S. Army as a combat field medic.

He is a lifetime member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars, president of Mahoning Veterans Memorial and active in other veteran organizations such as the United Veterans Council.

Schrock retired from General Motor of Lordstown. He is ordained by the Greenford Christian Church in Christian ministry, serving on pastoral care team and the Grief and Share team.

Schrock will be speaking on his war experiences and Christian ministry.

Music will be provided by Brenda Jarvis.
