Seeking supplies to help foster families

PROJECT BACKPACK: The National Youth Advocate Program is committed to providing a safe and positive experience for foster youth and their families during the pandemic. NYAP is holding the second annual Project Backpack, a monthlong collection of school supplies to help foster youth be prepared for back-to-school season. Items needed are personal protective equipment, hand sanitizer, Lysol and Clorox wipes, tissues, pencils, pens, erasers, backpacks, colored pencils, crayons, notebooks, binders, tape, highlighters, markers, calculators, scissors and glue.

Inspired by last year’s drive, NYAP wants to up the stakes and support foster parents who help its foster youth year-round with their schoolwork. NYAP will provide Project Backpack-Parent Pack, a way to ensure foster parents will be equipped to tackle the school year with their foster youth. The following items are needed for foster parents: poster boards, tri-fold boards, tape, ink cartridges, coffee mugs, folders and pull-ups.

Project Backpack is a community-wide effort with school supply donations helping over 100 foster kids this school year. Call 330-633-4187 before dropping off donations. Drop-off locations for school supply donations are 30 Northwest Ave., Suite 120 Building A, Tallmadge and 5423 Mahoning Ave. Suite H, Youngstown. Donations also can be made through NYAP’s Amazon Wishlist and will ship directly to the office.
