Historical society meetings on hold

SOCIETY CANCELS MEETING: The Boardman Historical Society has canceled its meeting for Monday. The annual meeting held in the summer is on hold. Dates for future events will depend on the status of the coronavirus and testing opportunities.

BOARDMAN FOOD DISTRIBUTION: Boardman Local Schools is holding its weekly food distribution for students and their families 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Monday at the school parking lot. Meals are distributed from doors 8 and 9 at the high school (the Glenwood Junior High side of the building).

The week of May 4 pet food was added to the distribution as Animal Charities humane agents joined the distribution.

Children up to age 18 are eligible for food, which includes breakfasts and lunches for the week while supplies last. This is a drive-thru pickup so families will not congregate in lines. When families pick up food, children need to be present.

For information, call Boardman schools at 330-726-3404.

DONATION DRIVE AT MALL: Donation drives and blood drives are just some of the ways the Southern Park Mall is showing its support for the local community during the coronavirus outbreak. Donations of nonperishable food, bottled water, laundry soap, toilet paper and toiletries are being accepted for the Salvation Army. Donations can be dropped off noon to 5 p.m. daily outside the food court at the mall.

A blood drive with the American Red Cross is being planned for noon to 6 p.m. May 21 with people asked to park and enter at the food court. Schedule an appointment online at RedCrossBlood.org or call 1-800-REDCROSS.

VIRTUAL TOUR PLANNED: The Mahoning County Educational Service Center’s Career Exploration tour for students in grades 7-12 has gone virtual and will be available starting Monday.

Participating students will hear from a variety of guest speakers in one-hour webinars over Zoom. Guest speakers will talk about their careers, skills / schooling needed for that career, the importance of soft skills in the workplace, and recruiting requirements that are important when companies are hiring employees. There will be time for questions and answers during each session. Registration is not required to participate in this event. Sessions will begin at 9 a.m., 10:30 a.m. and noon each day. Anyone who cannot join via computer, but would like to join via phone can dial 1-929-436-2866 or 1-301-715-8592. Anyone with questions should contact Lead Career Counselor Robert Eggleston by emailing R.Eggleston@ MVRCOG.org.
