SAUCE AND SONG: The monthly Sauce and Song event on Sunday, sponsored by Youngstown St. Patrick Church, will feature a spaghetti dinner and an afternoon concert that will include some Irish songs by the trio Seamus.

The dinner be 11:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. in the social hall on Oak Hill. The one-hour concert will begin at 1:30 p.m. in the church and will feature the acoustic band Seamus. Each of the members has the first name James, and Seamus is the Irish name for James. Members of the trio are James Johnston Sr., James Johnston Jr. and James Thompson. The trio usually plays classic rock both locally and throughout Pennsylvania

The concert will feature a mix of Irish tunes, pop classics and one or two hymns. The concert is free, but free-will offerings will be welcomed. Call 330-743-1109 for information.

SOUP AND MOVIE SERIES: St. Columba Cathedral, Wood Street, Youngstown, will host a soup and movie series on Mondays during Lent.

The events will begin at 6 p.m. with evening prayer in the church, followed by soup and the movie at 6:30 p.m. in the parish hall. The film series will be Bishop Robert Barron’s “The Mass.”

The series will run Monday and March 9, 16, 23 and 30. It is free, but reservations are needed by calling Sister Martha Reed at the rectory at 330-744-5233.

UNDERSTANDING OLD TESTAMENT: St. John Lutheran Church, 1429 Mahoning Ave., Youngstown, will host a winter term lecture series “Understanding the Old Testament” 6 to 8:45 p.m. Tuesday and March 10, 24 and 31.

ONENESS BLESSING: Unity Spiritual Centre, 1226 Naylor Lloyd Road, Liberty, will host a “Oneness Blessing” 6:45 p.m. Tuesday. The blessing is a transfer of spiritual energy from a “Oneness Blessing Giver” to another person by placing hands on the head of the receiver.

The blessing will be conducted by reiki master and author Paul Christian. This event is free, but donations will be accepted.

HEBREW COURSE: The Jewish Community Center of Youngstown, 505 Gypsy Lane, will present an eight-week Hebrew Primer class on Tuesdays. The crash Hebrew reading course will enable participants to phonetically read any Hebrew word.

Classes will be 11:45 a.m. to 1:15 p.m. Tuesdays through March 10. The cost is $40 for JCC and Temple members and $55 for nonmembers.

The course is sponsored by the Commission for Jewish Education.

DIALOGUE SESSION: Jewish-Christian dialogue will be 1 p.m. Wednesday at Temple El Emeth, 3970 Logan Way in Liberty.

FIRST FRIDAY CLUB: First Friday Club of Greater Youngstown will host the Rev. Donald Senior, president emeritus and chancellor of Catholic Theological Union in Chicago, 11:30 a.m. Thursday at Avion on the Water Banquet Center, 2177 W. Western Reserve Road, Canfield.

SPIRITUALITY SERIES: Ursuline Education and Wellness Center, 4280 Shields Road, Canfield, will host a women’s sprituality series “Mindfulness” 6:30 to 8 p.m. Thursday.

The program will be led by Sister Eileen Kernan, who will help participants tap into ancient wisdom traditions of Asia, explore the quiet spaces of their minds and experience moments on insights.

SOUP FOR SOUL: St. Rose Catholic Church, 48 Main St., Girard, will host “Soup for the Soul” during Lent. Participants will enjoy soup while learning about the Eucharist 6 p.m. Thursdays March 5 to April 2, followed by Bishop Robert Barron’s DVD series “The Eucharist.”

The event will be in Rosetta Hall.

PERFORMANCE SET: Simple Gifts Interfaith Choir will perform with the Youngstown Symphony Orchestra on March 7. The 80-voice choir will perform in collaboration with Singers Together and The Youngstown Connection for the YSO’s program entitled “Spiritual Journey: The Road to Peace and Freedom.”

Simple Gifts Interfaith Choir is comprised of singers from Mahoning, Trumbull, Columbiana and Portage counties, as well as Mercer and Lawrence counties in Pennsylvania.

EVENING OF RECONCILIATION: The Diocese of Youngstown will celebrate an evening of reconciliation entitled “The Light Is On for You” 6:30 p.m. March 11.

The Sacrament of Reconciliation (penance) will be available or parishes will combine to celebrate a Lenten Communal Reconciliation Service. Parishioners are advised to consult their parish weekly Sunday bulletin for location and time.

ROLE OF RELIGION: Junior Seton Circle will meet noon March 12 at A La Cart Catering, 429 Lisbon Road, Canfield. Speaker Jessie McClain will discuss “The Role that Religion Plays in the Holocaust.”

TASTE OF FESTIVAL: St. Patrick Church, 357 N. Main St., Hubbard, will host the Taste of Our Festival event 4 to 8 p.m. March 14. Foods of the annual summer festival will be available. County Mayo Band will perform. Admission is free.

SCRABBLE EVENT: Protestant Family Service in Youngstown will present a Scrabble tournament fundraiser 11:30 a.m. March 14 at New Beginnings Outreach Ministries Church, 2007 S. Schenley Road, Youngstown. The game begins at noon. There also will be a basket auction, door prizes, food and other items. Call 330-746-4600.

PASSOVER SERVICE: River of Life, 65 Palestine Ave., Boardman, will host “Christ is the Passover” service 10:30 a.m. March 15. The program “Rediscovering the Jewish roots of our Christian faith” will be presented by Mark and Cheryl Kholos.
