Seeing Eye: Step out for Heart Walk

TRI-COUNTY HEART WALK SET: More than 1,000 walkers are scheduled to take part Saturday at the Tri-County Heart Walk at the WATTS Center at Youngstown State University, 651 Elm St. Check in is 9 a.m., and the 2-mile walk begins at 10 a.m. The free community event with survivors will include a kids’ zone, gifts for survivors and a tumbling performance. The American Heart Association is also offering free blood-pressure screenings, free hands-only CPR training, BMI screenings and a nutrition demonstration at the walk. GARDEN FORUM: The Garden Forum of Greater Youngstown will host its annual fall meeting and luncheon Oct. 12 at the Davis Center in Fellows Riverside Gardens, 123 McKinley Ave., Youngstown. The event will be co-hosted by Hubbard Jr. and Johnny Appleseed garden clubs.

Registration will take place 9:30 to 10 a.m. The morning program will be presented by Jimmy Sutman from The Purple Cat. Dennis James from DJ’s Greenhouse and Gardens will speak in the afternoon. There also will be various raffle items.

The cost is $25 for nonmembers and $20 for Garden Forum members. The event is open to the public.

Reservations, including the names and garden club affiliations, if applicable, of those attending must be received and paid by Saturday. Checks should be made payable to and mailed to the Garden Forum, 123 McKinley Ave., Youngstown, OH 44509. No phone reservations
