Wagering dips at Austintown racino

Third straight month of decline for Hollywood

AUSTINTOWN — Wagering in June on video lottery terminals at Hollywood Gaming at Mahoning Valley Race Course fell 4 percent from the previous month, the third down month in a row at the racino.

Still, bettors wagered more than $140.5 million, according to the latest numbers from the Ohio Lottery Commission, which oversees video lottery terminals, or VLTs, in Ohio. In May, bettors bet $146.5 million.

At the seven racinos in Ohio, wagering eclipsed $1.2 billion for the month, but was down about $91 million, or 7 percent, from the $1.3 billion in May.

Last month in Austintown, bettors won $125.3 million, down from $130.6 million in May. The racino reported a net win of $13.4 million, down from $14.1 million the prior month; a percent payout of 90.4, up from 90.3 percent; and win per VLT per day of $397, down $7 from May. An average of 1,129 gaming machines were on the floor, same as in May.

In June 2020, when the racinos were closed through the 19th because of the viral outbreak, bettors wagered $43.9 million, won $38.9 million and the racino had a net win of $4.5 million. The percent payout was 89.6, the win per VLT per day was $339 and there was an average 1,121 machines in play.

Of the net winnings last month, $8.9 million went to racino operator, Wyomissing, Pa.-based Penn National Gaming Inc.; $47.2 million to the lottery commission; and $44,755 went to programs that provide support for gambling addiction services.

The commission reported in the state in June bettors won $1.08 billion, down from $1.1 billion in May. The net win was $112.1 million, down from $122.3 million; the percent payout was 90.7, up from 90.5; and the win per VLT per day was $356, down from $384 in May. The average number of gaming machines in play was 10,488, up from 10,285.

In the shortened June 2020, there were $435.6 million credits played, $388.9 million credits won and a net win of $42.6 million. The percent payout was 90.2, the win per VLT per day was $314, and the percent payout was 90.2.

Last month, $74.1 million was given to operators, $37.5 million to the lottery commission and $372,774 went to problem gambling services.
