Library to host rainforest program


Salem Public Library will host a “Live From Anywhere” series program titled “Rainforest, Layers of Life” on Nov. 8 from 6:30 to 7:30 p.m. in the library’s Quaker Room, 821 E. State St. This interactive video program, to be presented by The Toledo Zoo, will explain what a rainforest is, where they are located, why they are important and what they look, feel and sound like. The event is free and open to the public, and the program will show the diversity of animal and plant life that lives in rainforests. The importance of rainforests to the earth as a whole will also be discussed. The program topics cover a variety of subjects related to science, history and more.

City’s holiday parade planned for Nov. 30


The city of Youngstown, Youngstown CityScape and title sponsor Home Savings will present this year’s Holiday Parade & Tree Lighting Ceremony on Nov. 30.

Festivities will begin at 4 p.m. in Central Square. The parade will commence at 6:30. The route will begin on East Federal Street near Commerce and will finish on West Federal Street at Vindicator Square. The tree-lighting will take place immediately after the parade (about 7:30), followed by pictures with Santa. Other activities will include:
