Lady Cardinals soccer team recognizes seniors

Family, friends and the Canfield soccer community joined the Canfield High School girls soccer team in honoring the five senior members of the varsity team during Senior Night at Bob Dove Field Oct. 7.
Forward Gianna Campana, holding mid and defender Heather Haley, forward Lily Hodge, center midfielder Halee Klacik and defender Cheyenne Story were recognized before the varsity game versus the Austintown Fitch Falcons.
Campana was escorted by parents David and Mary Ellen, with her banner carried by teammate Brooke Kemp and friend Marissa Donchess; Haley was escorted by her parents Gary and Kim and Grandma Ruth, with her banner carried by her sister Ashley; Hodge was escorted by her parents Robert and Keri, with her banner carried by her sister and teammate Sophie; Klacik was escorted by her parents Robert and MaryAnn, with her banner carried by her brother Erik Klacik and Senior Captain Story was escorted by Jenifer Kiernan, Bill Story and Jennifer Darnell, with her banner carried by Eddie Kiernan, sister and teammate Ashley Story and teammate Anita Mancini.
As they were announced, the players and their escorts walked through the double line of their teammates after they were greeted by Head Coach Phil Simone.
Canfield High School alumnus Ashley Haley sang “The National Anthem” prior to the game. Canfield High School student council provided the flowers for the players’ parents.
As part of the celebration, before the game began, the five senior members led their team in running through a hoop banner which recognized the seniors.
The Canfield High School Soccer Boosters offered a reception in the high school’s cafeteria after the varsity team’s 1-0 victory over Austintown for the families and teammates of the five senior team members. The cafeteria was decorated by the parents of the junior players to honor the senior players, as is the Canfield High School soccer tradition.
With their victory over the Falcons, the Canfield High School girls varsity soccer team clinched the All-American Conference Red Tier champion title.
