Huntington Bancshares Inc. recently announced the promotion of Sharon DeFrances to assistant vice president, private banking relationship manager.
DeFrances, with 15 years of experience, most recently served as private banking officer.
In her new role, DeFrances is responsible for ensuring private-banking customers receive personal attention and professional advice. DeFrances attended Youngstown State University. She served as Huntington’s committee chairwoman for its 2011 Trumbull United Way campaign and is involved with Howland Schools’ parent-teacher organization. DeFrances also serves as a board member for Children’s Rehabilitation Center and the Trumbull County Grievance Committee.
Dr. Ravi Alapati, a specialist in advanced laparoscopic surgery and board certified general surgeon, was inducted as a Fellow of the American College of Surgeons during a convocation ceremony at the College’s recent 97th annual Clinical Congress in San Francisco.
Dr. Alapati is the medical director of Sharon Regional Health Center’s bariatric surgery program, specializing in gastric bypass, the Lap-Band system and the new Vertical Sleeve Gastrectomy procedures, among other specialties. He recently performed the first laparoscopic splenectomy at Sharon Regional.
Alapati completed a five-year general-surgery residency at St. Vincent’s Catholic Medical Center in New York and a laparoscopic surgery fellowship at Westchester Medical Center in Valhalla, N.Y. He recently was selected to the list of America’s Top Minimally Invasive Surgeons by the Consumers Research Council of America. He is a member of the Society of Laparoendoscopic Surgeons, Society of American Gastrointestinal and Endoscopic Surgeons, American Society for Metabolic and Bariatric Surgery and the American Medical Association.
The American College of Surgeons is a scientific and educational organization of surgeons that was founded in 1913 to raise the standards of surgical practice and to improve the care of the surgical patient.
Dr. Kirk Works, gastroenterologist, is now affiliated with the University of Pittsburgh Division of Gastroenterology, Hepatology, and Nutrition and the UPMC Digestive Disorders Center.
Dr. Works has been a member of UPMC Horizon’s medical staff since 1990. He earned his medical degree from Creighton University in Omaha, Neb., where he also completed an internal medicine residency. He completed a gastroenterology fellowship at Cleveland Clinic.
Dr. Works is certified in gastroenterology by the American Board of Internal Medicine and is a member of the American College of Gastroenterology and the Pennsylvania Medical Society.
As part of the UPMC Digestive Disorders Center, he will work closely with University of Pittsburgh gastroenterologists. As a group, the physicians specialize in digestive disorders including inflammatory bowel disease, liver disease, pancreatic and biliary disorders, esophageal diseases and gastrointestinal cancer. Dr. Works will continue to see patients at his office, 125 N. Main St., Greenville, Pa.
