UPMC Horizon: Expanded services, including new open MRI unit, mark 2006 for campus
FARRELL, Pa. -- UPMC Horizon expanded several of its services in 2006.
To accommodate an increased number of childbirths and other services in the Shenango Valley, the system expanded its maternity, telemetry and same-day services departments at the Shenango Valley campus in Farrell.
This project doubled the number of beds in the maternity department and added bassinets and an isolation nursery. Also included in the project was a 17-bed intermediate medical unit.
Shenango Valley Imaging Associates, a joint venture between Mid-Atlantic Unified Health Systems and UPMC Horizon, recently unveiled a new open MRI unit at the Womancare Center in Hermitage.
The laparoscopic adjustable gastric banding procedure has joined the traditional Roux-en-Y procedure as a surgical weight-loss option. Dr. Alexander Barkan, joined UPMC Horizon and Dr. James Kolenich in the performance of general and bariatric surgery.
After formalizing an agreement with the UPMC, Greenville Medical Center is now known as Greenville Medical Center -- UPMC. Community Medicine Inc., a subsidiary of University of Pittsburgh Medical Center, assumed management of Greenville Medical Center effective Sept. 1.
During 2007, UPMC Horizon will begin construction on renovation and expansion of the operating room suite at its Greenville campus.
