Proceeds from the benefit go to The Edward J. DeBartolo Memorial Scholarship Foundation.
Denise DeBartolo York of Canfield, the owner of the 49ers, recently awarded six scholarships totaling $30,000 in memory of her father.
This year's scholarship recipients are: Erica Brooke Antonucci of Cardinal Mooney High; Matthew John Kuebler of Western Reserve; Robert Markwell of Niles McKinley; Jennifer Lynne of McPheron of Brookfield; Ashley Ann Senich of Hubbard; and William J. Smith of United Local.
Recipients are awarded scholarships based on financial need, academic achievement and community involvement.
Reaping the benefits
Over the past seven years, the foundation has awarded more than $200,000 in scholarships.
"The goals of the foundation are to reward [Mahoning] Valley students, who have proven to be good role models and leaders, the opportunity to go to college," York said. "My father believed that students who have given back to their community while in high school should be afforded the opportunity to receive a college education."
