YSU to display attorney’s paintings

Paintings by Canfield attorney Nils P. Johnson will be featured in an exhibition opening Monday at Youngstown State University’s Judith Rae Solomon Gallery.

Johnson is an elected member of the Allied Artists of America, the Connecticut Academy of Fine Arts and the Copley Society in Boston. His work is part of the permanent collections at the Butler Institute of American Art and Dartmouth College, and he created a mural for the Moyer Judicial Center in Columbus, where the Ohio Supreme Court operates.

He regularly exhibits his paintings in shows throughout New England and New York City. He was an artist in residence at Youngstown’s SMARTS school and at the Fine Arts Work Center, Provincetown, Mass.

A playwright and musician, Johnson will add author to his resume with the soon-to-be-released book “Color Up — A Better Way to Paint.”

“Color Up! Paintings by Nils P. Johnson” will be on display through April 20 at the Bliss Hall gallery. An artist reception is planned from 4:30 to 6:30 p.m. April 12. Admission is free.
