Event combines race, food fest

The Youngstown Marathon Foundation will have its first Taste of Youngstown 5K & 0.0 on June 24 at the Canfield Fairgrounds.

The 5K run/walk will start at 6 p.m., and the race will include trivia questions regarding Youngstown and its people.

At the end of the race, there will be food served associated with Youngstown. The menu will consist of Brier Hill Pizza from Pizza Joe’s, pierogis from Lena’s Pierogi House, pepperoni rolls from Carla’s Catering, wedding soup from Tringhese’s Italian store, sausage from DiRusso’s, pasta from Gia Russa’s, monkey salad from Antone’s, blueberry doughnuts from White House Fruit Farms, Abruzzi’s peppers and oil, a cookie table and Penguin City Beer.

Musical entertainment will be provided by Jon and Bob.

The cost is $40 for 5K runners / walkers and $35 for those who just want to enjoy the post-race food and festivities (the 0.0 folks) with children 12 and younger admitted for $25. Registration is required by June 12 to guarantee a T-shirt for the 5K or 0.0. Registration is available online at Youngstownmarathon.com, racesignup.com or

Key sponsors are Huntington Bank, Mercy Health, Second Sole and Novacare. Proceeds from the race will support The Youngstown Marathon Foundation and Gleaners Foodbank.
