MVHS program features WWI Christmas truce

YOUNGSTOWN — The December Bites and Bits of History lunchtime program at Tyler History Center, 325 W. Federal St., will focus on the “A World War I Christmas: The 1914 Christmas Truce.”

George Johnson, a collector of antique Christmas items will use images and videos to show how soldiers celebrated Christmas in the trenches in World War I with an emphasis on the spontaneous Christmas Truce of 1914, when for one day the guns of war fell silent because the soldiers on both sides made it happen.

The program starts at noon Dec. 16. Admission is free. Masks are required in all Mahoning Valley Historical Society buildings. For more information, go to mahoninghistory.org/events/.
