Stephen L. Gage will conduct the Youngstown State University Wind Ensemble for the final time at an outdoor concert Saturday.

The Wind Ensemble, directed by Yukitada Onitsuka, and the YSU Horn Choir, directed by Sean Yancer, will perform at noon Saturday at Harrison Common on Walnut Street.

Music includes Felix Mendelssohn’s Overture for Winds Op. 24; Yosuke Fukuda’s “Crescent Moon”; John Philip Sousa’s “Liberty Bell”; Rodgers & Hart’s “Blue Moon” with a special arrangement by Gage; Peter Tchaikovsky’s Finale to Symphony No.4; Dmitri Shostakovich’s Festive Overture; and Franz Biebl’s “Ave Maria.”

Gage, who is retiring at the end the spring semester will conduct Sousa’s “Stars and Stripes Forever” to conclude the concert.

Gage has served as professor of conducting and director of bands and orchestra at the Dana School of Music since 1993. He was appointed as the Conductor of the YSU Dana Symphony Orchestra in 2014 and has conducted the annual opera production orchestra in addition to his work with the YSU Wind Ensemble and the Dana Chamber Winds & Strings. He leads the master’s program in instrumental conducting, and he has been the recruitment coordinator for his entire residency on the faculty.

The concert is free. Patrons are encouraged to bring their own chairs, blankets and snacks. Social distancing and masks will be mandatory.
