Playhouse hires new staff

Youngstown Playhouse announced the hiring of three new staff members, all with local ties.

It also will delay the start of its upcoming season until September.

Joshua William Green is the new artistic director, Kayla Boye is new executive director and Tyler Moliterno is the new associate artistic director. They replace operations manager James McClellan, who stepped down during the COVID-19 pandemic.

They were hired from a pool of more than 30 candidates.

Green is a Youngstown native and professional actor who has been part of national tours of the musicals “Ragtime” and “Finding Neverland.” His Youngstown Playhouse credits include “Dreamgirls,” “Cats,” “A Chorus Line,” “The Wiz” and “Legally Blonde.”

While Green will oversee artistic programming, Boye will manage administrative operations. Boye, a Warren native, most recently served as the organization’s development director and helped sustain the theater through the COVID-19 pandemic by implementing comprehensive restructuring and by securing several major grants. Her solo show, “Call Me Elizabeth,” made its world streaming premiere last month in partnership with The Youngstown Playhouse.

Moliterno is a Boardman native who studied theater and film at Cleveland State University. Since 2017, he has directed shows for the drama programs at both Boardman and Canfield high schools.

They will join staff members John Pecano, technical director; Sarah Jane Demetruk, education director; and Merle Ford, maintenance manager.

The staff will work closely with the board to shepherd the organization through its post-pandemic season, which was supposed to resume in May. Its production of “The Color Purple,” which will be directed by Trevail Maurice, now is slated to open in September.

Plans for summer programming, including outdoor special events and educational initiatives, are in the works.
