Science center offers day camps for kids

Great Lakes Science Center in Cleveland will offer a series of one-day camps for children during winter break.

Campers can program robots, uncover scientific mysteries, learn about NASA’s plans to return to the moon, mix up chemical concoctions, re-engineer toys and get creative with LEGOs. Camp activities are tailored to suit each age group.

This year’s camps include STEM HQ Takeover, Dec. 21; Take-Apart, Dec. 22; PPG Chemistry Lab, Dec. 23; NASA Clean Room, Dec. 28; NASA Artemis Day, Dec. 29; Dissection Lab, Dec. 30; Destination Earth!, Dec. 31; and Science Sleuth, Jan. 1.

All camp sessions have been designed with children’s health and safety in mind. All campers and staff are required to wear facemasks and undergo a daily health screening including a temperature check. All materials and workspaces are sanitized before and after each use, and classes use a dedicated space with access to hand-washing and sanitizer stations. Social distancing measures are followed with small class sizes separated by age group.

Winter break camps are $55 a day ($50 for members) and run from 8:15 a.m. to 4 p.m., with options for before-care starting at 7:30 a.m. and after-care from 4 to 5:30 p.m. for an additional fee. There is a $40 discount for those who sign up for all eight days, and siblings signed up for the same camp day receive a $2 discount.

Boxed lunches are available for pre-order as well for $7.50 each day, with vegetarian, gluten-free and dairy-free options available.
