OH WOW! celebrates 9 years online

OH WOW! The Roger & Gloria Jones Children’s Center for Science & Technology will celebrate its ninth birthday on Saturday.

According to Ralf Urbach, director of edutainment, “Essentially, OH WOW!’s greatest gift is our community. In celebration of that — our ninth birthday and the work of so many during the COVID-19 shutdown — we are throwing a virtual party and we want everyone to come.”

Visit ohwowkids.org for a complete schedule of the variety of ways you can participate. Visitors are encouraged to wear their OH WOW! gear, and the center will share information on its social media accounts about activities leading up to Saturday.

Located in downtown Youngstown, OH WOW! is a regional tourist destination with a colorful, hands-on environment that encourages independent thinking through interactive STEM-based exhibits and “edutaining” programs. OH WOW! has served more than half a million explorers since opening in May 2011.

During the COVID-19 pandemic, it has reached over 300,000 people across all platforms with projects and experiments that can be performed at home.

According to President and Executive Director Suzanne Barbati, “We so appreciate the efforts of our entire community in their support of OH WOW!, but more importantly, in their efforts to keep our families and communities healthy, safe and secure. Thank you. Tomorrow will come, and we’ll still be here for you.”
