Symphonette plays first concert

The Warren Area Youth Symphonette will play its first concert on Monday.

The ensemble, open to students in grades 6 to 12 who have had at least one year of private lessons, was started in September to provide the next educational step for area students participating in the Warren Philharmonic Orchestra’s Strings of Joy program. With no Trumbull County schools offering string instrument programs, the WPO began providing free violin lessons for students in grades 3 to 7.

WAYS students performing at the concert are Olivia Dunn, Jabril Jackson, Victoria Kromer, Talia Rishel, Ava Turner and Natalie Workley, along with Eliza Ortzen-Abbott, a young soloist that will be joining the group next season.

Under the direction of Natalie Sahyoun, the students will perform such works as “Shoe Symphony,” “International Strings,” “Sounds of Hanukkah” and “Candy Cane Christmas” as well as holiday favorites.

The concert starts at 6 p.m. Monday at the Odd Fellows Hall, 371 High St. NE, Warren. Tickets are $5 and are available in advance at Beautiful Whirl’d in Warren and at the door.
