Stambaugh Auditorium hosts doo wop show

Acts celebrating the legacy of The Drifters, The Platters and The Coasters will perform Friday at Stambaugh Auditorium.

The Drifters, inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 1988, had 16 top 40 hits, including such favorites as “There Goes My Baby,” “Save the Last Dance for Me,” “Up on the Roof,” “On Broadway” and “Under the Boardwalk.”

The Platters started its career with four top 5 hits — “Only You (And You Alone),” “The Great Pretender,” “(You’ve Got) That Magic Touch” and “My Prayer” — and the group had more than 20 top 40 hits between 1955 and 1967. Other top 10 favorites by the 1990 Rock Hall inductees included “Twilight Time,” “Smoke Gets in Your Eyes” and “Harbor Lights.”

The Coasters, 1987 Rock Hall inductees, mixed humor with its harmonies and with the help of legendary songwriters Jerry Leiber and Mike Stoller, the group had 10 top 40 hits, including “Searchin’,” “Young Blood,” “Yakety Yak,” “Charlie Brown,” “Along Came Jones” and “Poison Ivy.”

The concert starts at 8 p.m. Friday at Stambaugh, 1000 Fifth Ave., Youngstown. Tickets range from $20 to $50 and are available at the Stambaugh box office, online at www.stambaughaudit orium.com and by calling 330-259-0555.
