The Youngstown Cantorum will give a fundraising concert Sunday at Canfield Presbyterian Church.

It is a new ensemble, comprised mostly of Youngstown State University and Dana School of Music students who are members of the Dana Chorale.

Hae-Jong Lee, an associate professor at YSU, accepted an invitation to be guest conductor for a May 23, 2020, concert at New York City’s Carnegie Hall for a performance of John Rutter’s “Requiem” featuring the New England Symphonic Ensemble, world-class soloists and a large chorus.

Lee could invite his choral ensembles to join the large symphonic choir, and the Youngstown Cantorum was formed to accommodate the many YSU / Dana singers interested in participating in spite of the substantial travel / concert costs. The Stambaugh Chorus, which is directed by Lee, also will be part of the Carnegie Hall concert.

The Youngstown Cantorum will perform a solo a cappella concert at New York City’s Grace Church on May 21, 2020, as part of the trip.

Sunday’s performance will feature music by D. Buxtehude, Eriks Esenvalds, Karl Jenkins, Morten Lauridsen, Elezabeth Poston, Simon Wawer, Billy Joe, Stephen Paulus and Sarah Quartel.

The concert starts at 2:30 p.m. at the church, 140 W. Main St., Canfield. A freewill offering will be collected, with proceeds going toward the trip.

The group also will do a pasta dinner fundraiser from 4 to 8 p.m. Nov. 9 at St. John’s Episcopal Church, 323 Wick Ave., Youngstown.
