‘Steel Magnolias’ opens G.B. season Friday at Ashtabula Arts Center

ASHTABULA — “Steel Magnolias” opens the 2019-20 G.B. Community Theatre season Friday at Ashtabula Arts Center.

Robert Harling’s play, which was adapted into a 1989 film, is set in a Louisiana beauty parlor and chronicles the lives of six women through friendship, heartbreak and hilarity.

Cathy Lawson directs a cast featuring Meeghan Humphrey, Felicia Leonard, Charlotte Roberts, Stefani Rose, Amanda Toth and McKenzie Waugh.

According to Lawson, “Put six women together in a beauty shop and they’ll eventually share everything about their lives, loves and losses. They’ll share their happy moments and hold on to each other through their tragedies. As you watch this show, you may see someone you know very well mirrored in these women. You might see your own story.

“‘Steel Magnolias’ takes the simple conversation we all have with the people around us and recognizes the story worth telling in it. It elevates the everyday,” she said.

“Steel Magnolias” will be staged at 7:30 p.m. Friday and Saturday and 2 p.m. Sunday at Ashtabula Arts Center, 2928 W. 13th St., Ashtabula. Tickets are $15 for adults, $13 for students, senior citizens and military and $11 for children ages 2 to 11 if purchased in advance and $17, $15 and $13 the day of the show. Tickets are available online at ashtabulaartscen ter.org and by calling 440-964-3396.
