I like irreverent and eclectic souls, and that’s why I can’t seem to shake Jerry “JT” Tranovich and his burger boys.
JT and Co. are the self-appointed Mahoning Valley Burger Review Board. There’s nothing unique about the six of them — beer, football, post office jobs for most of them. And they set out three years ago to honor hamburgers.
I featured them at their start.
In Year 1, they honored O’Donold’s Irish Pub and Grille of Austintown. In 2010, they honored Martini Bros. of Girard.
Two weeks ago, the third “Burger of the Year” award was handed out by JT and crew, and it went to Sunrise Inn of Warren.
"All around it was the good burger. It says “8-ounce burger,” but I think it may be a little bit more than 8 ounces, and they have a fresh-made bun," said JT.

Mr Franko: To minimize potential brain cramps, you might consider melding this blog about best hamburgers with your most recent Sunday column on local government and thus focus on the baloney in the county. (Any and all condiments may be used as your editorial palate dictates.)
@ formerytown -
I would assume you have moved to the Western part of the U.S. to be familiar with In & Out Burgers.
They are certainly a quality company, but are family-owned and have no plans to franchise.
Take care.
Fat Burger is better.
