Today was our last workday at Lisa's house. We touched up the walls, painted trim, and installed doors. Some students even got to experience the wonders of the nail gun, but all left with extremities intact! John Pitzulo, our construction leader and Godsend, was joined by his wife Veronica as we finished construction. We also chatted with Miss Lydia today, the wonderful woman who makes our lunch each workday. Catholic Charities rebuilt her house last year. We finished with a bang - literally - as a refreshing thunderstorm aired out the home.
After showers and paint removal (who said there was no time for a few paint fights?) we toured the New Orleans Cathedral, a minor Basillica that withstood the hurricane. We then enjoyed the shops and visited the street entertainers as we experienced true New Orleans culture.
We were treated to dinner at Disney's Bubba Gump Shrimp Co. by the Diocese of Youngstown. Following a second ferryboat tour (the skylines are too beautiful to experience just once), we had the famous Coffee and Beignets from Cafe Du Monde.
We nominated special awards to the following workers... (ask for explainations when we return home)
Most Deliriness - Robby Payne; Least unpositive - Trista Goss; Joe's right hand - Becky Cormell; ER Queen - Carleen Kalasky; Biggest Scardy Cat - Anthony Copolla; John's Jester - Mike Safarek; Roller Queen - Talia Radilovic; Wowman - Jordan Burkey; The Exterminator - Corey Patrick; Dripps - Nick Gigax; The Hand-printer - Hannah Balogh; Finally of the closets - Madeline Kopper; Radio - Michael Wagner; Least Likely to Get Hurt - JoAnne Bartos.
It was a wonderful finish to a stellar week, and the girls were truly grateful. Pray for us on our return, and thank you for making all of this possible. Sleep well and God Bless.
