Inaugural Fun – Preparing for the Ball

Many of my friends want details, details, details. What am I wearing? What am I doing? Will I go to the swearing in? So, this blog is full of fun, girly details that (usually) women care about. Just preparing the negative guys out there who try to spin anything about Obama or the inaugural into a political debate.

Who does Ann Coulter think she is and what’s her beef with Single Moms?

I have to take a break from the original blog I was writing about inaugural preparations because Ann Coulter is on one of her crusades again. The target this time – single moms. She doesn’t distinguish what type of single mom and just lumps us altogether as a negative influence upon our children and society. What in the world is her problem?

Going to the Inaugural Ball to Represent the Big Y

I have been invited to the Ohio Gala at the Mayflower Hotel on January 18th and to the Midwestern States Inaugural Ball on the 20th. These next two weeks are all about preparation. Not only do I plan on preparing what I’ll wear and do, I plan on plugging Youngstown in a positive way to any officials I meet. (having blog issues again - body of blog will show up some day)

Merry Happy Chrismakkuh!

I straddle the fine line of placating a Catholic family since I converted to Judaism 14 years ago. If the season is about love, joy and peace, why can’t we all just learn to live together and respect one another’s differences?

Managia! fyi: Having trouble with the vindy site which is why you can't see the body. It's there but just not here.

Akron Children’s Hosptial – A Mother’s Impression

I have to say that the first two words that come to my mind when I think of the new Akron Children’s Hospital at Beeghly Campus are “Welcoming & Impressive”. I attended the community open house with my 2 year old daughter on Sunday and it was a good experience.

Lipstick + inquisitive 2 year old = Law & DisOrder

Because I worked as a brand manager in various cosmetic companies, I have quite the stash of makeup and lipsticks. Way more than a reasonable amount but any woman who is given free product gladly accepts more and more. As a result, my daughter has seen the containers and drawers in my bedroom full of colorful things that mama places on her face (albeit, to get rid of my natural pale pallor). What 2 year old could resist the temptation to try to figure out a method, place and time to plot her invasion of mom’s cache of colors?

My Pomegranate Addiction (Thanksgiving Style)

I grew up eating pomegranates - the wonderfully healthy and now trendy fruit. My father introduced them to me at a young age just like his Neapolitan parents did for him. Every winter, they were a standard in our house just like chestnuts, mixed nuts and citrus fruits. Who knew that this fruit, it’s juice and it’s fragrance would be such a huge trend for foods and beauty back then? All I know is that I admit to having an addiction to the fruit and only wish I could grow a tree or two in my backyard to feed my insatiable appetite for them.

Tapazza R.I.P.

I admit it. I’m a food snob. It has been a challenge for me to find reasonably priced good food in Youngstown. On the other hand, I've had to learn how to cook my faves rather than rely on takout. Then, an oasis in the dessert called “Tapazza” opened. Unfortunately, it is closing on Monday just to re-open as a BBQ joint. What the . . . ?

What to Do with the Kids when Winter Arrives

It seems our Indian summer has ended. Once again, it has become too cold to go to the park or send the kids outside. I’m sure what is uppermost on most mom’s minds is “What am I going to do to keep my child from destroying my house and keep my sanity?” I’m here to give you some advice about where to take the kids when they start climbing the walls and removing the pots and pans out of the cupboards as you hide in a corner, pulling your hair out (and that includes me). ;)
