To Sleep is To Dream

Will I ever have a full night's sleep again? It starts as soon as you become pregnant. One is either up to 1) eat in the middle of the night with a voracious craving or attack of hunger, 2) go to the bathroom (again and again and again), or 3) awake with discomfort at the new positions one tries to maneuver an ever expanding body (not to mention the dreaded calf cramps). Once the child is born, a fitful night's sleep is again a long ago dream due to frequent feedings/diaper changes, gassy bellys, adjustments to sleeping environments (co-sleeping, sleeping in a crib or just plain sleeping). I've survived all of that and now find the toddler years full of another set of expriences that interupt sleep. I'm convinced I will just have to forego a good night of sleep until my child has graduated from college and is at a stable stage of her life.

Our Night at Akron Children's

I had blogged in December that no one wants to have to visit the newly renovated Akron Children's Hospital Beeghley Campus but it sometimes is a necessity. My first ER experience with my 2 year old daughter was as good as it gets all things considered. I am so glad I went to the open house tour and that there is a hospital devoted to children's (and their guardians) needs.

I ♥ My Library

I am a huge advocate for the public library system. As a young child, a regular, much anticipated outing with my father was to the Brownlee Woods library. I loved each moment at the library: the smell of the books both musty and new, the artwork on display, the expectation of a new adventure to read, the (internal) competition to see how many grades above my own I could read and my cajoling for dad to take out a big, adult picture book for me to look through and learn of new places far away from Youngstown. As a result, I was elated to see the opening of a new library on the south side of Youngstown and stopped in to see all the bells and whistles.

Will Michelle Obama Help Working Moms?

The great thing about our new first lady is that she has been a working mother just like so many of us. She knows what it is like to climb the corporate ladder and battle glass ceilings. She knows the pressures to succeed in a career, find the perfect man, have the perfect marriage, find time to have the perfect children and raise great human beings - all while trying to keep true to oneself and manage to stay sane. ;)

Eczema Winter Woes

Since my daughter was born, we battle eczema as soon as the air becomes cool until the spring thaw. I recently told my pediatrician some things I do to battle this skin inflammation which occurs in 1 out of 4 infants. He thought they were good ideas and said he'd share them with his other patients. So, I'm sharing them with you.

January Inventory Time Means BARGAINS!

It's that time of year again when the weather is brutal but the bargains are divine. I know there are many bargain mavens in our area. Let's share the wealth by shouting out the best deals in town (or nearby).

Celebrating at the Ball

I'm back from my whirlwind of fun in D.C. to celebrate the inauguration of President Obama. It was such a dizzying busy time filled with so many people to meet.

The Swearing In Ceremony

What an amazing day! A beautiful, sunny sky, a myriad collection of Americans from all over the U.S. and a new president.

Galas, Celebs & Obama Mania

Its been a whirlwind 24 hours in D.C. After driving 2 hours in a snowstorm, missing my exit to get into D.C. & taking 45 minutes to get 2 miles to my hotel, I am finally in the thick of things at the Mayflower Hotel. The entire city is alive with excitment, energy & smiling faces.
