Saving Sanity Ideas with Snowed-in Tots

Everything is white these days. White with snow that is. If you are like me and have a toddler or younger, their outdoor activities are very limited. My daughter lasted all of 3 minutes the first day we went out to play in her sled. She got a face full of wind and declared "I'm done." I acquired this list of things to do with your toddler from my single moms group and isn't this the perfect time to share them? Keep in mind, some ideas might not suit your household or lifestyle and feel free to tweak for your own winter fun.

Holidays 2009: So many things to do, so little time

Life seems to get crazier and busier as children grow. Doesn’t it? But I do have to say it is easier to find things to do with your children as they get older and there are more activities in this area for older kids. I still envy my friends that live in areas with Gymborees (the play kind, not the clothing store) or who have party houses that soley cater children’s themed parties. Regardless, the Mahoning Valley has been busy with activities and I’ve been lucky enough to take my 3 year old daughter to some.

Youngstown is All About Fall Fun

Youngstown is the place to be for fun fall festivities. The trees are aflame with colors, farms beckon with the promis of apples and pumpkins, local parks have a slew of activities and football is the sport du jour. It is the season where great childhood memories are created and our town has many activities to help create them.

Kidz Go Grey to Green This Saturday

What an exciting upcoming weekend for all in the Youngstown area. There will be so many fun filled activities for children to enjoy at the Grey to Green Festival this Saturday. This festival strives to increase awareness of environmental issues in general. Issues which truly will impact our children's future. The grey to green concept is also part of the Youngstown 2010 Plan, and the Wick Park Revitalization effort that is currently underway. It is organized by and full of volunteers from a very active and progressive group of individuals working hard to brand Youngstown in an optimistic way.

Blogger Ethics

Should mom bloggers be held to a higher standard? Do some have relationships with big brands and need to fess up? According to an article on cnn.com, the FTC is looking into this.

Sharing Ideas for the Coming Season

I’ve spent the summer months gardening, cleaning, fixing and running around after a toddler. By the evening time to blog, one just becomes too exhausted to think straight. Now that the summer is drawing to a close, I'm making time to write again.

Allergies from Hell

Who can blog when one is having their worst allergy season since growing up here? Thankfully, I have a sister who has battled our local pollen count for ages and is a walking pharmaceutical book on what works and what doesn't.

Summer Camp 4 Kids Means Sanity for Parents

I'm sure there are parents of children of all ages out there debating summer vacations this year. We all are reading about "staycations". What better way for parents to truly get a break but to have their children at a great, local summer camp? Kids get to exert pent up energy and parents get to fix up the house or just relax.

Spring Cleaning Au Naturel

It is almost time to open up the windows, let in the fresh air and clean up our homes after a long, cold winter season. Since having my daughter, I've become more and more aware of the chemicals that are in cleaning products. The baby books tell one to crawl around on the ground to see what is at a child's eye level when baby proofing a house. It leads one to think "Hmm, my child will be touching the floor, eating things lying around and gnawing on furniture. Areas that I'm cleaning with chemicals!" It doesn't take much to begin reading the ingredients on any cleaning product before you see "Warning! Do not ingest! Do not put near eyes/skin/animals!" Wow. If these ingredients are so bad, why would I want them around the most precious, priceless thing in my life?

Where Are All the Moms?

Being a mom can be lonely at times. You become so absorbed in all the wants and needs of your little one(s) that you forget about yourself. Whether you are a Stay-At-Home-Mom (SAHM) or working mom, you still need to find friends who have things in common with you or who can commiserate with you. Back in the day, neighborhoods were packed with kids and moms. All you had to do was talk to your neighbor. With our city's shrinking population and aging demographic, it isn't as easy to do. One of the purposes of creating this blog was to offer moms an outlet to vent or see that other's face the same challenges.
