From HBO: The earliest Pavlik and Martinez would walk to the ring is 10:30 p.m. and the latest is 11:15.
This is good news if you're a sportswriter working on a tight deadline. The last few Pavlik fights have been on pay-per-view and they've started at 11:30 or later. If I remember correctly, the Pavlik-Hopkins bout started really late and they had one of those national anthem singers who was getting paid by the second. When the first word isn't "Oh," but "Oooooooooooooooohhhhhhhhhhh," you know you're in trouble.
Just got word that Paul Williams -- aka Pavlik's nemesis -- is sitting ringside. If Pavlik wins tonight, look for that fight to finally get made.
I went to the famed White House Sub Shop earlier today, which is one of those Atlantic City landmarks. It's this small little dive, there's a ton of pictures on the wall of the celebrities and you end up waiting 35 minutes for a $7 sub.
I got the cheesesteak and it was good. But it didn't change my life or anything. Honestly, I prefer the cheesesteaks at Charley's Grilled Subs on Belmont.
I think the Billy Goat in Chicago is the same way. You get your hopes up and you realize it's just a dive diner made famous by John Belushi and Mike Royko.
On the other hand, I think the MVR in Youngstown and Luigi's in Akron are worth the trip.
What does this have to do with boxing? Absolutely nothing. But remember, these blogs are free.
