All that you need to know about the Miller Lite Greatest Scramble on Monday, Aug. 18 at The Lake Club.

It’s part of the Greatest Week in the Valley presented by Covelli Enterprises and The Vindicator. We’re joined by Superior Beverage and Farmers National Bank making this whole Greatest happen.

Adding to the Monday fun will be the finals of our first Greatest Driver of the Valley long-drive competition. The long-drive winners from Monday’s championship get automatic spots in that day’s long-drive championship.

This is our second annual scramble championship event. Here’s what you can expect of the Greatest Scramble Championship:

It’s a competitive event. There will be no gimmicks like mulligans or throw your ball or whatever items typical for fun scrambles. Pure team golf. We will award a Gross and a Net champ.

You will be officially in the event when a payment of $500 is received from your team.

Make out a $500 check to “The Vindicator.”
Mail to:
The Vindicator
107 Vindicator Square
Youngstown, Ohio 44503
Attn: Greatest Golfer

You can also pay by credit card by calling 330-747-1471. Ask for Julie in accounting. Call between 10-4 Monday-Friday. Please email me if there are problems in this process.

Handicapped play:
Each team captain must submit their player handicaps by Wed., Aug. 13. Handicaps must be GHIN or verifiable club/league handicap.
Teams are capped at a max handicap of 32 (all players combined).
You will be awarded 10 percent of your team’s total strokes. So teams will get anywhere from .5 to 3.2 strokes.
If a player in your group does not have an official handicap, no worries. He or she is a 0 in the formula, and you play on.
Email all team handicap info to vindygreatest@vindy.com.

The range will be open before play.
12:30 — Meet at the carts for rules, overview.
1 p.m. — Tee off
5:30 — Long Drive finals at No. 8
6:15 p.m. — Dinner & presentations

Among the offerings:
• Lunch will be provided, and there will be beer, pop and gatorade on the course.
• Steak dinner (cash bar) immediately after the event, with awards presentation.
• We will award trophies and gift certificates to the top Net team and the top Gross team — 8 players total.
• We invite you to play in both our cash games.

All that you need to know about our inaugural Greatest Driver of the Valley shootout.

Like our entire Greatest Golfer program, this is another chance to blend Valley competition and camaraderie.

And also like the rest of Greatest, we will grow this skills component with baby steps. As our adult event has grown to more than 300 golfers in 4 years, we’re excited for this component to grow as well. And know that you will help grow this.

A max of 30 golfers will compete — men and women age 18 and over.

A field will be compiled first from Greatest scrambles, but then opened to community (first come) until 30 spots are filled. Registration will be publicized in The Vindy.

Tippecanoe Country Club will host Elimination Round on Saturday, Aug. 16. The event will start at 6 p.m.

The top 3 Men’s and Women’s hitters will advance from Tippe to compete at the finals of the Greatest Scramble Championship on Monday, Aug. 18 at The Lake Club. We expect the long drive to take place at 5:30 p.m. when that scramble concludes.

Players will pay $35 to compete. Email vindygreatest@vindy.com to register, and payment instructions will follow. Check or credit card will be accepted.

The event is open and free to spectators at both sites.
