Six Valley wrestlers will compete in the championship semifinals tonight at the state tournament at the Jerome Schottenstein Center at Ohio State.
After nearly falling in the first round, Fitch High's Tony Jameson won his quarterfinal match this morning with a pin at 1:11 of the first period. The victory keeps his hopes of a fourth straight state championship alive. He will face Mentor's Evan Schreiner in the semifinals tonight.
Howland's Kyle Leek (125) and Greg Ryan (135) adavanced to the semis in Division II after winning in the quarterfinals. Leek, who knocked off the top seed on Thursday will meet Ravenna's Scott Meyer in the semis.
Ryan, a returning state qualifier, will battle for a spot in the championship match when he faces Alliance's Manuel Cintron in the semis. Ryan beat Cintron two weeks ago to win the West Branch sectional title. All three semifinalists at 135 are from the Akron Firestone district.
Three Beaver Local wrestlers will compete in the semis Friday night, including Dylan Ice (140), Jon Bittenger (160) and Derek Wolfe (285).
Boardman's Jeff Liggitt (135)is still in the mix to place and will face Reynoldsburg's Tommy Sasfy in the consolation quarterfinals tonight.
Brookfield's Tyler Thompson (103) will face Loudonville's Scott Spreng in the consolation quarterfinals.
