YOUNGSTOWN — With 14,233 absentee votes in Mahoning County, U.S. Sen. Hillary Rodham Clinton, D-N.Y., is beating U.S. Sen. Barack Obama, D-Ill., 57.8 percent to 39.1 percent.
Lou D’Apolito of Boardman has a small lead over Judge Tim Franken of Beaver Township 42 percent to 40.5 percent for a seat on the Mahoning County Court of Common Pleas. The two other challengers in the race are far behind.
Probate Judge Mark Belinky of Boardman has a comfortable lead over two opponents.
All other incumbents in the county have big leads in their races.
The vote for the Youngstown school levy 9.5-mill additional tax and the Western Reserve Transit Authority 0.25-percent sales tax are very close among absentees. Youngstown is losing 52 percent to 48 percent. The WRTA tax is up 50.2 percent to 49.8 percent.
