WHO Backed Down ?

I, as many of y'all received this email :

"On Thursday, the Senate passed historic Wall Street reform. This movement proved again that the strongest special interests, who for so long have called the shots in Washington, can be beat.

When opponents in Congress tried to block the legislation altogether, you stood up -- and they backed down[my emphasis]. When the lobbyists pushed for loopholes and exemptions just before a final vote, you did not relent -- and we fought them off.

Your support brought us to this day -- and, because of that, we're poised to implement sensible reforms that will provide a stronger foundation for economic growth.

Now, the House and Senate must iron out their differences before I can sign it into law. But the financial industry will not give up. They have already spent more than $1 million per member of Congress, lobbying on this issue. And in the coming days, they will go all in. This is their last shot to stall, weaken, or kill reform, and they are not accustomed to losing.

But this movement has you -- and together, we have beaten the special interests before.

Please donate....

Thank you,

President Barack Obama"

hmmm...THEY backed down????

Delivered on Wednesday, October 2, 2002 by Barack Obama, Illinois State Senator, at the first high-profile Chicago anti-Iraq war rally (organized by Chicagoans Against War in Iraq) at noon in Federal Plaza in Chicago, Illinois; at the same day and hour that President Bush and Congress announced their agreement on the joint resolution authorizing the Iraq War, but over a week before it was passed by either body of Congress:

"...I don’t oppose all wars. And I know that in this crowd today, there is no shortage of patriots, or of patriotism. What I am opposed to is a dumb war. What I am opposed to is a rash war. What I am opposed to is the cynical attempt by Richard Perle and Paul Wolfowitz and other arm-chair, weekend warriors in this Administration to shove their own ideological agendas down our throats, irrespective of the costs in lives lost and in hardships borne.

What I am opposed to is the attempt by political hacks like Karl Rove to distract us from a rise in the uninsured, a rise in the poverty rate, a drop in the median income — to distract us from corporate scandals and a stock market that has just gone through the worst month since the Great Depression.

That’s what I’m opposed to. A dumb war. A rash war. A war based not on reason but on passion, not on principle but on politics..."

DURHAM, N.H. -- Senator Barack Obama of Illinois brought a strong antiwar message yesterday to New Hampshire, winning enthusiastic applause from audiences in Nashua and Durham who said they were tired of the unpopular war and eager to find a candidate who would get the country out of it.

"We are now in the midst of a war that never should have been authorized, never should have been waged," Obama told a crowd of close to 3,000 packed into the gymnasium at the University of New Hampshire. "Unless we bring that war to a close, we cannot deal with those other problems I just mentioned," such as education and healthcare, Obama added, his words nearly drowned out by the wild applause that followed his denouncement of the war....

The Iraq war is emerging as a major issue in the nascent primary season, and New Hampshire Democrats -- who won control of the state Legislature as well as both of the state's congressional seats with an antiwar theme -- have been pressing candidates to condemn the war and explain how they would extricate the United States from the conflict.

Long-time listeners remember my call WHERE'S THE OUTRAGE ?

The Democrats are in control and escalating the war - WHERE'S THE OUTRAGE ?

On Monday 17 May's show  I interviewed Dan Edge, producer of the Frontline piece The Wounded Platoon- it haunts me. I urge you to watch this film-it's linked here.

Tuesday 18 May's  New York Times published :

Grim Milestone: 1,000 Americans Dead

From The Guardian, Saturday 27 September 2003:

'You lied, they died,' US parents tell Bush

So, where are those voices now ????

I was raised to believe that the Democratic party was "...the party of the people...". I did believe that for many years. The Democrats have now proven that they are the party of and FOR the party, their party - your cash and votes are welcome, beyond that, THEY'RE in and WE'RE out ....and this nation's children are STILL DYING, now, to our silence.

Oh yes, President Obama, WHO  BACKED DOWN ?????
