Happy St. Patrick's Day - or should I say weekend?
Area restaurants and bars have been promoting their St. Patty's Day events like crazy and are planning to entertain patrons all weekend. Many of the Valley's Irish - and non-Irish - will be overdosing on corned beef sandwiches and green beer. Breakfast, lunch and dinner will feature such fare.
As far as I know, I'm not Irish. I'm not even a Notre Dame fan - yes, I said it. I don't use Irish Spring soap, I don't own a four-leaf clover and I don't eat green eggs and ham. I did have a roommate once who was from Northern Ireland - does that count?
Anyway, I won't be celebrating St. Patty's Day this weekend. No green beer, Irish whiskey, corned beef or bar crawls. The closest I'll come to paying tribute to all things green will be consuming large amounts of my favorite green beverage - Mountain Dew. Even that isn't true - the fluid is actually yellow, but appears green because of the plastic bottle it's in.
But for everyone celebrating their heritage this weekend, have a fun, but safe weekend.
