There is no audio so we don't know what the defendant was saying, if anything. There does seem to be a flurry of strikes by the deputy while the man was seated on the floor with no provocation...

Although it is easy to make assumptions based solely on the video, we do not know what actually occurred.

"The Deputy Dog" had NO reason to twist this guy's arm, throw this guy on the floor, punch him while trying to turn him over, then stradle this guy on the jail house floor, beat and pound him somemore, then roll and cuff the prisoner all while on the floor of the county jail. REALLY?? Come on Deputy Dog!!! Aren't you smart enough to use something else than your fat fists? Brain stopped working this night? The pert never struck back,, raised a hand, not one time. Deputy Dog needs to look for a new mental miserable job. He's too hateful to stay employed with the county. Who told "Deputy the Large Dog" it's seriously OK beat people up when they don't answer him with what he wants to hear? Good thing the camera was in the room, mounted on the wall to catch this whole thing. Let his hateful sorry Forget the union crap. GO!. Keep your freaking hands to yourself people.

I agree with "endthismess"...These police officers beating on someone is so uncalled for !! Im glad this was caught on video and i hope this officer gets reprimanded in some way for this ! It doesnt matter what the the other person was saying, these cops know better then to do these things. They just want to show they are bullies and have the upper hand. They should be made to take anger management classes when they go off on someone !

Do you think he cares about rules and laws? Do you think if the tables were turned he would treat the deputy with respect? Just something to think about.

Blame the cops and feel bad for the criminals, and then when there released to society, you people bi@#ch and moan about them. Such stupidity in society today.

We know exactly what happened! We can see it in the video. Self defense requires imminent peril. The only peril facing the deputy involved his circulatory system, not this guy on the floor. It doesn't matter what the guy said. And it doesn't matter what the guy might have done if the tables were turned. The standard of behavior for a Sherrif's Deputy is somewhat higher than it is for a felon, don't you think? Although it now appears that this deputy may be a felon.

OK! SO, WAS THIS OFFICER WAS WRONG FOR BEATING CHRISTIAN, OR WAS HE WRONG FOR BEING CAUGHT ON CAMERA? NO SELF DEFENSE IN AN OFFICER BLATANTLY BEATING A PERSON. SOME OF YOU ARE SYMPATHIZING WITH CHRISTIAN BUT, NONE OF YOU SYMPATHIZED WITH DORETHA WESTON AND DESIREE JOHNSON. THAT'S BECAUSE YOU DIDN'T WANT TO FACE THE WRATH AND FURY OF LT. KEVIN MERCER. BOOOO! LT. KEVIN MERCER AND OFFICER PATRICK MULLIGAN BEAT THESE TWO WOMEN IN RETALIATION TO A LAW SUIT. THE LAW SUIT IS STILL IN AFFECT.

ok ppl... seriously.... regardless of what this guy did or said... what happened in this video was totally out of line... u can even tell by the deputies body language afterwards that he had a point to prove, and had let his anger take over the situation... ive been to prison, and i have seen innocent ppl lose years of thier lives over false allegations... im not saying this guy is innocent, but what if your family member was him, and they were a little pissed off they just got YEARS in prison... they are gonna have some unkind words and feelings, and the deputies know that... unfortunately i had the pleasure of spending alot of time with them and some of them are pricks... flat out... i just never said anything cuz no one was dumb enough to lay a hand on me...

Waaaa waaaa waaaa want some cheese with that WHINING. If you stay clean and obey the law you wouldn't end up in jail. Duh! Common sense!

You people are a trip, you have NO IDEA what goes on in County or Prison. You think this was sooo horrible, this was NOTHING! And I can make that comment because I've been there, done that, and brought the t shirt. When your incarcerated you just DEAL with it. And not all the time does the Officer come out unharmed. You win some you lose some you just prepare for another chance. In prison or county you don't see nothing, hear nothing, say nothing, and that goes for BOTH, the inmates and officers. If you's only knew. You people are a trip, getting bent out of shape over a few punches in a COUNTY jail, County jail is a joke. Wait till he becomes a resident of the Ohio Department of Corrections. That is laughable. You wouldn't last a half of day being incarcerated if you thought that was so bad. LMFAO!

And redding, quit bringing up those two nutcases. Give it a rest.

Looks like the Deputy was trained in the Mike Budd School of Inmate Discipline.
The Deputy has a right to use the MINIMAL amount of force necessary to subdue a person. The arm-bar take down to get him to conform to his commands is reasonable force, but the punches to the man's head area are not. LOOK for the inmate to win a lawsuit against the county and the Deputy to lose his job and possibly face a federal investigation. This inmate will have no trouble finding a lawyer to take his case.

What I see does not warrant a law suit.I am sure the deputy used the wrong technique, but even so it looks very minor to me.Wonder what the criminal was saying to the officer? I am sure it wasn't appropriate. Maybe threatening his life? Or his family. For a criminal to try to game the system for his profit is becoming the norm. Better call Betras- he stands for justice-NOT. For a tough guy who most likely used assault rifles against police-he got off too easy...IMHO

Who are either of you to decide what human beings deserve rights and which do not? Who do you think you are? Does the phrase "...endowed by their Creator with certain unalienable rights..." mean anything to you? Do you respect this Country? How about our founding Fathers? Maybe the Constitution? Perhaps the Bill of Rights?

No matter the crimes this man has committed he retains his rights to due process, freedom from cruel and unusual punishment and others. He will be prosecuted, judged and sentenced in a manner consistent with the law. You do respect the law and due process don't you?

When we defend the rights of this man we defend ourselves. The denial of rights can never be justified. Otherwise we cannot demand rights for ourselves can we?

Nobody condones the criminal behavior of this man. Neither do we condone the denial of his rights, if that occurred.

Get it? Geeze.

"......freedom from cruel and unusual punishment and others."""

Where is the cruel and unusual punishment? What so called "rights" were broken? You see a short video with no audio and say this cockroach was right. Again, you don't know what was said, what happened before this incident or exactly why. There's a lot going on behind the scenes "everyday" that the public don't hear about. When are people going to realize, that provoking cops, is a strategy that criminals are using, not only to get off, but to milk the system for money! These guys are doing these things deliberately. And you bleeding hearts fall for it and defend this cockroach.
And when he gets out, and roaming the streets, you's will be the first to bi@# and moan about him and such, because the dude will likely be caged up again......geez!

You and I want the same things for this man with the addition that I want him to be free from abuse and retain his rights and dignity while he is incarcerated.

There is nothing in my comment to indicate almost any of the ridiculous claims you make. This man should not be freed. This man is not "right." I am definitely not a bleeding heart (go read my comments).

Educate yourself:

The rights of prisoners are guaranteed by the 8th amendment of the U.S. Constitution. This amendment states that incarcerated persons must NOT be subjected to “cruel and unusual punishment.” Courts have consistently found that physical abuse, such as BEATINGS IN THE FACE, are cruel and unusual.

Prisoner rights ARE constitutional rights. Institutions are required to provide inmates with a minimum standard level of treatment. Prisoners do not lose their constitutional rights to due process, freedom from abuse and other mistreatment as well as the freedom of speech.

There are few excuses for treating an inmate this way. This deputy screwed up and the taxpayers are going to have to foot the bill for the legal consequences. This prisoner was was denied his rights in this circumstance. There is no argument about it.

There is no room in a free society, in America, for the despotic abuse of prisoners. Incarceration is enough. Violence is not necessary or tolerable. All freedom loving Americans should stand for these principles without hesitation. They lie at the very core of our freedoms.

"Courts have consistently found that physical abuse, such as BEATINGS IN THE FACE, are cruel and unusual."

Unusual? That is so far from the truth. What this cockroach received was nothing compared to the sh@# I witnessed. And you never ever go to the media or snitch on a officer or inmate. He's targeted now wherever he gets sentenced to. Stuff like this follows you everywhere. But he made his own bed and now he has to lay in it.

""There are few excuses for treating an inmate this way.""

This is the part you don't comprehend. You have no idea what was said, what history is between these two, or what happened in the jail, transport, etc. Dude might have spit on him and the Officer got retaliation. Wouldn't you smack someone around if you got spit on? Not saying this is the case but no one knows. And once again, if this Officer just did that to show power, then he is wrong, no question about it. But for a Officer with NO disciplinary issues, that is highly unlikely. I wasn't there so I have no idea who really is at fault. Some of these cockroaches are just nasty.

"If you want to stay uneducated there is nothing I can do about it. Best of luck."

Uneducated? Me? Not quite. Did my service in the USN, was a radioman and have a AS in Computer Engineering, worked for major companies, worked for the county and state. Had a huge drinking problem, ended up in jails and finally prison, but from all that experience, which is a lot,, I would say I'm highly educated. It's bleeding hearts like you that is making this country what it is. And that is a huge shame.
Experience and Education go hand in hand.

Until you experience it or see it first hand then you really can't say nothing, only what the media feeds you. Be a little open minded instead of one track mind. You'll see the world in a different perspective. Comprehend?

@Minds2Short

No, you are not educated. Experienced, I agree, but not educated. Educated persons typically possess the minimum level of intellect, interest and focus required to seek out and uncover new information, take that new information and integrate it into themselves then adapt to reflect that change. Based on your rejection of new information and refusal to adapt it has become clear that you are just an uneducated fool that lacks the cognitive ability and skills necessary to recognize and synthesize new information.

For example, based on your utterly uniformed opinions on this matter of prisoner abuse it is obvious that you lack an understanding of the framework of various rights and responsibilities that is the basis for our Country. This is why I responded to you with the information needed to help improve your understanding in the hopes that you might accept this information for the truth it represents, integrate these simple truths into yourself and retreat from your positions, which are rooted in sheer ignorance. You ignored this information, entrenched yourself in the uneducated position and lashed out at those that attempted to correct the deficiencies responsible for your erroneous views. This is simply the behavior of an uneducated fool.

Also, I don't want to be too brutish here but as a person that worked hard to complete their education, I take a little umbrage to people like you that claim education then exhibit none. I have read many of your comments and can tell you that educated people don't make the type of mistakes you routinely make. Just from the single comment above I can illustrate at least two examples. You say "...hearts like you that is making this country..." The verb conjugation should be "are" for use with the plural "hearts." You say "...can't say nothing..." which is a double-negative which means "...must say something..." These are not the words of an educated person. Experienced, yes. Educated, no.

It's never too late to go back to complete your education and I would encourage you to do so. If you are a senior you can attend classes at YSU for free. Otherwise the courses are affordable and aid is available if needed. It would certainly be a better use of time than trolling around the Vindicator making thousands of uneducated comments and getting occasionally spanked for it.

Bottom line, I get my point across. You can correct my spelling, pronunciation, sentence structure, etc. You must be a very boring person to find fault in someones grammar and writings and all that useless information. Doesn't make you any smarter then anyone else. Understand? You could be so precise and book smart and what not, but that doesn't mean your highly educated. Matter of fact it actually makes you a very "boring" person. Blue blood and snobs and the like are really crusty people that don't know how to have any fun. Must be very boring being you.

I make thousands of comments, because I can and because I enjoy it, problem with that? But your snobby, nose up in the air, crusty personality, don't like it, don't read it. You jealous? I write about what I feel about a situation and to get feedback from others, see, unlike you, I have a open mind, I listen to the other sides opinion, I'm not bias, except when it's someone like you, that think what they say is the rule, no ands, buts or ifs. So sorry to disappoint you, but I'll keep on commenting on subjects that interest me and you can correct peoples sentence structures.

And you can call me a uneducated fool all you want, because what you say, don't mean a thing. That's the comment only a real fool would make when they don't even know the person. smh at such stupidity in society.

You must really be a boring person. Kind of feel bad for you.

P.S.
""Based on your rejection of new information and refusal to adapt it has become clear that you are just an uneducated fool that lacks the cognitive ability and skills necessary to recognize and synthesize new information.""

My, my, my, you are like so wrong in that comment. I'm so open minded it'll blow your slow mind away. Again, such stupidity in society today.

@Lifes2Dumb

You feel that skills learned in the English language are "...useless information..." and actual intelligence gained from studies "...doesn't mean you['re] highly educated..." and in fact education makes a person "...boring?" Well, you got me there I guess. These are great points. What was I thinking? I think you should apply for a janitorial job in the State-house.

Life is definitely too short to argue with a fool. Who said it? Never argue with a fool. They will only bring you down to their level then beat you with experience. You epitomize that statement. It doesn't surprise me that you find intelligence and education boring. Your writing and thinking reflects that attitude.

Nobody but you made some claim about your intellect and education. You claimed you were educated and intellectual and you did so with writing skills that directly contradict your claim. Then when somebody challenges your false claim they are "stupid" and "finding fault" and "boring" and "crusty" and a "snob." Don't make claims to education and intelligence that you do not possess and maybe you will not be challenged on them. Then you won't have to call people names to hide your embarrassment, fears of inadequacy, lack of development and failures in educational achievement.

You are the person that seems to have a problem with the facts including the facts of this article as well as those of your education and intellect. I agree that an educated opinion or an educated person is not necessarily worth more than another. But, a person that lies about their education and then cannot shut up about it when they are called out onto the carpet certainly has less character than a person that does not do these things. A lack of character certainly reduces personal worth. I am glad you enjoy making comments and you are right you do get your point across. You don't need to pretend to be an intellectual or educated in order to get your point across either.

You say you are open-minded but the fact is that you are wrong about the prisoner abuse issue and you refuse to accept it and absorb that new information. I showed you facts to demonstrate the prisoner treatment in the video is considered both abuse and wrong according to the people that make those decisions. You ignored those facts and keep your mind closed to the truth. Opinions are one thing. Facts are another. Facts are not open to debate like opinions. If you are so opened minded then accept the facts on the prisoner abuse issue and drop it. The highest courts in the land have ruled on this again and again. The Constitution and Bill of Rights are clear as a bell. Accept this new information and correct your erroneous views. Otherwise you are close-minded by your own volition.

By the way, you make even more mistakes when you're rattled. I stopped counting when I got to ten in your latest comment. I agree with you on one thing: Go Steelers!

YAWN! Me rattled? Now that is really funny. What you say or debate does not get me rattled. For me, it's hilarious your correct sentence structure and pronunciation, trying to come off like your Einstein. But no one ever gets me upset. Lifes 2 short for that nonsense.

As far as the so called prisoner abuse issue, we can go back and forth, but that is not prisoner abuse. If you want to see prison abuse, spend a week in prison, then you'll see prison abuse. Wait till the investigation comes out. Then we'll see. If I was wrong then I was wrong, if not, then so be it.

It's payback time for the STEELERS!

@Skulls2Thick

You should be crying, not laughing. It is saddening that a self proclaimed educated adult cannot or will not take the time to understand the not-so-subtle points of the language they "speak." It doesn't take an Einstein to understand the SIMPLE rules of the English language. It only takes average to below average intelligence. If you think people that can effectively speak and write in English are more brilliant than you then I guess you are correct. If you concentrated on just one grammatical rule per day you would solve every problem you exhibit before October and no longer present yourself as uneducated in your writing. I hope you do. Start with the distinction between "your" and "you're." Then when you're done educating yourself about grammar you can move on to American History, the Bill of Rights and maybe some notable rulings on prisoner abuse cases. If you ever found that you were interested in learning and wanted some guidance or tutoring let me know. I would be happy to help.

Truly,

Einstein
