Pathetic performance by all concerned. GOV painted himself into a corner on taxes and is paying a price. Meanwhile the entrenched Senate Repubs are playing games with the state's future. Ball is in Repub court to propose solutions. Here is betting they don't and we go to interim budgets. Few can feel proud. This probably cooks the Dems' goose in 2010. I bet then Strickland will regret not trying to be more responsible with his opp to lead.........PS: you want to watch a rat crawl into a hole, watch Kasich duck every chance to weigh in.......

To rebut the last ignorant remarks from djmck616, miserable Repub governance paved the way for Dem gains state and nationally. Sixteen years in Ohio of misguided priorities sunk Ohio and the Strickland agenda. I will concede it may well cost Strickland in 2010 as the natives have every reason to be restless. d-616 and his ilk would have mored street cred had they not been perfectly content to sit idly by while Bush and Cheney drove the buggy off a cliff in all aspects of our well being. The youth of our country , already tuned out by the Repub noise machine, will not respond to name calling "marxist gunk" that has no basis in fact in their lives....Good grief, grow up....

All of Marc's wounds were self inflicted. The office did go to his head, "I can hire anyone I want to, even if they are scum." Marc forgot what he himself had said about the repubs and Taft on his way to the top, "Incompetent or Liars." In the end, by hiring bozos, he proved incompetent. I still believe that he should have gone to court to challenge the extraordinary authority conferred upon the inspector general, a nice man with his own agenda items, and fought for his office: LET THE VOTERS DECIDE HIS FATE. In the end, Marc panicked and chose to flee, when his chasers would never show him any mercy no matter. I respect Bentley's continued loyalty to Marc Dann. No one is in a position to speak to the private and personal matter but them. Many families stand loyal, look at the Clintons/no one is perfect. (How many Notre Damers who railed against Obama this past week have cheated on their wives.famlies? What is sad is that Marc had a set of priorities he was fighting for that would help a vastly larger number of Ohioans. From out of office, he cannot continue that fight. If only he could have kept his own ego in check and been more selective and selfish about his own fortunes in his hiring. But no, he had to bring in the goon squad or a chief of staff with no clue as to where the Statehouse restrooms were located (but who was to be the eyes and ears of the spouse......... not a good reason to hire a chum when your political future hangs in the balance). As for Bertram, he tips his hand in every matter. He is not objective. He is willing to stretch his version of the truth to support his agenda EVERY time. It is a good thing he caught on with the VINDY, otherwise he would be selling insurance or flipping burgers. Either way, Marc brought this on himself. Let us wish him well in the next chapter of his life.

Betras is a bright, intelligent attorney whose success in the legal field has removed him from conversations with the rank &file of the party or the community. He has the attention span of a fly. They might have to come up with a provision where he can communicate with people without looking them in the eye so he can continue to text uninterrupted...........I still haven't seen where Lisa is resigning the post yet.

The State made a reasonable offer. It was flatly rejected. Let them fight it out in court. Pay them an amount commensurate with the actual damage incurred. DO NOT reward these two bimbets with an excessive amount. If they proceed to court, throw the house at them and report their actions and culpability. I hate to quote Geo Bush but, "bring it on!!"

Memo to Lebowski, these are two Repubs crying because the Dem judges have the majority on the panel. Spend five minutes with Grendell and you will see she is out to lunch, not very smart. There is nothing serious about these charges. Period.

Has the Vindicator ever questioned the manner in which charges were brought against Traficant? Did you ever wonder just how so many federal resources and officers were devoted to chasing this guy? Might the reason for this federal zeal be centered in the desire on their part to settle an old score from when Traf beat them back in the early 80s? The Vindy had its own beefs with Jim Traficant and perhaps its own justification, but you woefully underestimate why people are still drawn to Jimbo, and some probably feel he got the shaft from the feds that your rant is based on. This may come as a shock to your paper, but many drew inspiration from him, felt he was fighting for us. In the interim, since his conviction and sentencing, we have seen the likes of Bob Ney, Jack Abromoff, Ted Stevens and so many more have their misdeeds revealed. These chaps backed the truck up to the vault and simply started shoveling, public trust be damned. Yet these rogues have received lighter sentences; Ney was released to a halfway house after two years; Stevens, who dipped with the big dipper for 40 years, will probably be pardoned; a who's who of Cleveland area pols are about to be outed for corruption..........and the Vindy is still carrying out its vendetta against Traficant. Lighten up, loosen up and I find the timing of your rant interesting. Remember FDR: the only thing we have to fear is fear itself...

Good for Senate Dems for throwing the rotten fish back in the barrel. They did the right thing. The Antonini committee misread the situation in its zeal to resurrect the political life of Ed Sturgeon er umm Engler.........good riddance..

The Madame Chair may be great but she defends the indefensible, a process that was rigged from the beginning to produce a cynical result. Every thing we do, every decision that is made on behalf of the public, is intended to be scrutinized, by the press and public alike. Lisa appears to be stupified by that component in our political system. Were I her, I certainly would not defend their kangaroo court process where they were not open enough to apprise candidates of the meeting time. The fix was in from the get go; that is politics. But Lisa is right, ultimately the Senate Dem caucus is responsible for making a selection. Regardless of the kind and gracious words of Senator Miller in Columbus, the caucus rebuked the party's process and selections and tossed the rotten fish back in the water. That is their prerogative, and they took it. The party should learn from this exercise.

Not much of a process that would produce not one, but three weak links. If one did not know better, one would think the fix was in for Okey because of the weak recommendations. Given the damaged parties forwarded for consideration, is it possible to say the committee was actually putting the image of the valley first? Remember six months ago when people were complaining how Marc Dann had given the valley another black eye? Here we go again. Unbelievable, yet typical. Shameful.
