Bertram is committed to the same tired drum beat. It is truly tiresome. Why the hell would McNally agree to give up his bid on terms set by Bertram, an acknowledged "unfriendly" known to be in the tank for Tablack and Gains? What moron would even expect to receive an answer in the affirmative? People are charged every day who are later proven innocent. Why is it not possible that McNally is comfortable with how he conducted himself in matters Oakhill?? An issue was raised and suddenly there was a rush to buy a building IMMEDIATELY or else, with know true knowledge what it would cost to make the building habitable or to maintain in the years ahead. McNally balked. In so doing, he chose sides. Just as a coalition of folks formed to support Oakhill, a coalition formed to oppose it. Sides are chosen everyday in the Ohio General Assembly. Money changes hands, donations are made, small perks extended. But in Bertram's mind, that is criminal activity if one does not come down on the side to which he alone ascribes purity. Like it or not, the state dropped charges against the original Defendants in the Oakhill investigation. Does anybody think they would NOT have pressed their advantage if they had one?? Drop it Bertram and move to Columbus and use your sleuth skills to follow the money in Columbus. Time to let sleeping dogs lie.......
So very true. You are correct Ytownjustice. They want to both ways. Thay want to stomp her and also muzzle her from speaking up as to what she knows. No case is more important to Nationwide and the rotten and corrupt insurance industry. Her is my lineup of the worst of the worst: insurance industry, utilities, financial services sector, them realtors, then lawyers. What do they all have in common? They own Congress and our state legislatures......
That editorial was as thoughtful and prescient as any I have read in any major paper that took the time to mark the 10th anniversary of the war against a country that had nothing to do with 911. Those neocons succeeded in diverting the country's attention away from those who had planned and executed the horror of 911. They manipulated and cherry picked the intelligence to produce an outcome that had been the desired outcome from the first days of the Bush 43 Administration. In pursuing this unworthy course, they did a disservice to American policy and tradition. In the process, they stoked entire new generations of American haters who will continue to pursue the killing of innocent Americans as revenge. The sheer arrogance of shaping a policy around the notion of making these peoples look upon our power with "shock and awe" seemingly to get them to fear us was mere folly. That much of our major press outlets, not the Vindicator, was duplicitous in this endeavor makes it all the more discouraging and disgusting. I thank the Vindicator editorial writers for this most thoughtful and appropriate of editorials. Great work and these lessons should be learned across the land! (And while it is an entirely different ballgame, when I see Governor Kasich conduct his development operation in secrecy, this from the cast of players that gave us Tom Noe and coingate, I fear the same brand of press duplicity that emboldened Team Bush also lending encouragement to the Kasich Vandals. Where have you gone Bernie Madoff?)
Trust John Kasich to do right by Ohioans the way Workers comp trusted Tom Noe in coin gate. What the hell is wrong with this picture? Since when did our system of government settle for no transparency? If this were the proper course would the Repub legislature have given this manner of control to a Dem? Not no, hell no. JobsOhio is unconstitutional.
Will agree the Dems cannot beat Kasich. No chance, only Kasich can beat Kasich. That is the point. As his arrogance continues to reveal itself, as his true agenda comes to light, call me master of the obvious, but Kasich is willing to take bonehead steps to make his re-eelection vulnerable. Virtually none of his budget is going to survive legislative rewrites. That he wants to conduct state development program in secret will not be tolerated. The truth is, if Ohioans come to understand what he is trying to do/how he is trying to do it, they will turn this redical and whining crybaby/bully out of office.......that is why Fitzgerald is not willing to give him a free pass next year......
Would that be the same Paul Gains who knowingly let another accept blame for shooting him when he fully understood that was not the guy? That Paul Gains? but because he feeds Bert, he is viewed as an upstanding citizen......
I slept on it and I figured it out. Bertram has been valuable to the Vindy but he has missed his calling. If his true interest is to snuff out and sniff out the bad things that occur at the intersection of money, politics and public policy, he is wasting his talents and his zeal. He should be in Columbus monitoring the manner in which our Ohio General Assembly conducts its business. There are 250 Cafaros directing traffic. What occurred at Oak Hill, which was termed a policy disagreement by some, would be considered chump change in Columbus. At a minimum, Bertram should be assigned by the Vindy to track the budget process now underway in Columbus. Maybe then he could get over his fixation with seeing Oak Hill antagonists frogmarched in town square in orange jump suits.......
Would that be the same Judge Lioi who presided over the criminal prosecution trials of the Cleveland/Cuyahoga public corruption cases? It seems she was fairly vigilant in that endeavor. Why could she not be counted on to conduct herself to the same standards in matters Mahoning? It is bunk to think otherwise. Bertram simply doesn't like the outcome that has been produced to date. While he beats the drums to ensure that a few scalps are had in the Oak Hill debacle, he has dug his head into the ground while our bully Governor works around legal requirements for concealing public dollars in his own secret slush fund. Mr. Bertram, how is that not an issue that can capture your attention? It matches your criteria of public officials, cronyism, special interests and high rollers and people gaming the system. It is almost as if he was threatening the law enforcement apparatus if they don't eventually conduct themselves as he would have them. Trust the law to work as it did in Cleve and get down to Columbus and shine light on the crooked and disturbing scheme that is JobsOhio. You can be the next Bob Woodward.
This is a dangerous precedent for state government as the Gov tells us to "trust" him to do right by us. There is no doubt the auditor has authority to audit the funds. This evokes memories of Nixon. It cannot stand. All you need to know is they would have NEVER given such authority to conduct government in SECRET to a Dem governor.......
Tracy Winbush may be well intentioned, but she is not very smart. Because of her politics, she will follow Kasich over a cliff. If a Dem governor had proposed what Kasich proposed as it pertains to the Turnpike, she would have screamed bloody murder. All due respect to the Congressman, he is irrelevant to Kasich's plans. Now we have Kasich trying to operate a government program in secret, no accountability. He says that, in spite of the millions of dollars in state money, his program is not subject to the scrutiny of the state auditor. Because it is coming from her guy, she is willing to give cart blanche and let government be conducted in secret, public dollars being assigned a private agency with no government action making it so. Forget Tim Ryan, who serves in our U.S. Congress, stand up for accountability and transparency and demand an accounting of those public dollars. PS in spite of her nincompoopery, the Kasich crew won't even back up their promises about how they intend to direct those funds leveraged at the Turnpike. Does that concern Ms. Winbush or is it OK since she feels a kinship with this particular Gov?
