I'll listen to the churches when they stop doing Bingo, tear offs and selling beer at festivals to make money - that they don't pay tax on. Hypocrites!
Betras and Smith are both wrong on this one.
Why does the Valley think they are entitled to a piece of everything that comes to Ohio, especially over the much larger metropolitan areas?
And for those whining that they are going to "import" all the jobs and they won't be Ohio workers - nonsense. What, are they going to commute every day? If they do come from out of state it's much more reasonable to assume they will relocate. Plus wherever they are from they will be at the very least paying Ohio income taxes.
I'm not sure that writing this into the Constitution was the best way to go, but Ohioans need to pass this or shut their stupid mouths when more libraries and parks close as the state runs out of money.
Of course the Christian thing for the church to do would be to volunteer to pay taxes and help their fellow man in need.
Some idiot said: "Looking at if it was 400 people getting that $4,500, that's $1.8 million. The university, according to ysu.edu and its fast facts section, has a budget of $140.8 million and an endowment of $170 million... They've got plenty of money and are not going to go broke by paying these bonuses."
If YSU is so well to do, why the tuition hike? You're trying to act like one has nothing to do with the other.
I'd like to see how many of you people supporting YSU here would be so supportive if the public sector employees getting $4,500 bonuses were police or fire while the municipality was raising taxes...
Anyone who has lived in this Valley knows that you do not speed in Canfield, Poland, Goshen, Green, and a few others or you WILL get a ticket. No ifs ands or buts about it.
If they got lax at some point, I never noticed because I have the common sense not to speed there!
Personally, I'd be happy to live in a place where all the cops and citizens have to worry about is speeders, versus... umm how many murders is Y-Town up to this year?
I wish Boardman and Austintown would follow suit with Canfield and Poland and start cracking down every chance they get. Push the city back into the city.
Sick boy it has nothing to do with fuel efficiency. It has to do with GM having their head in the sand for so long. Now they finally come out with a hybrid and they want close to double what the other car companies want... for a "beta" car, while the other companies are several generations in.
In other words, they want you to pay the premium for their garbage business practices...
So go dump $40k on it and let us know how that works out.
This shows how absolutely out of touch with reality they still are. How many people can afford a $40k vehicle right now? And what they don't tell you is that the batteries have to be replaced every 5 or so years at around $5k.
All while Prius is starting at $22k. So who in their right mind would spend nearly double that for a 1st generation GM hybrid?
Typical. Let's vote ourselves pay raises in the middle of a recession, raise tuition, then scoff at having to pay for utility work on our new $34 million building.
Citizens pay enough for utilities, they should never get shouldered with this expense.
When the YSU administration take a pay cut, and a substantial one, then come back and ask other people to give something to you.
Really? That's the answer to GM's troubles... eBay? Really? I'm speechless.
Yeah... because I know I for one would much rather buy a car on eBay than go a half a mile to my nearest dealership and test drive one.
A few years ago I sat in the plant manager's meeting at the assembly plant in Lordstown and saw the cost per car figures. They were less than $1,300 for a Cavalier at the time. That included TOTAL cost to manufacture the car... everything from parts to plant payroll to paying the electric bill.
They turn around and sell them at "a loss" for $15,000. So they sell for roughly $12,000 per car more than it costs to manufacture and they cannot make a profit on them.
Maybe they should look more into reducing their astronomical, non-manufacturing spending so they can reduce what they sell cars for, make a profit and start to turn around instead of looking to eBay.
But then again common sense is what keeps me from getting a million dollar salary as a car czar.

Ridiculous. Get the maintenance guy to go grab a ball peen hammer. Apply with force to the forehead. Repeat as necessary. Problem solved.

Well see, it's a good thing the WRTA levy passed!
Why doesn't the city just sell the entire east side as a land fill and buy garbage from other cities. They'd make a mint.
There's nothing else useful left to do with it.

When did Canfield become "lenient"???
