The real issue should be "What is best for the children?". Unfortunately, the issue seems to be "How can we hold onto the dollars?". I understand the concern of public school administrators as they watch their systems face increasing financial pressure. However, no one is suggesting that they change anything about the public schools to help address the concerns of a growing group of dissatisfied families. Every child that is taken from the public system saves the State of Ohio (not the local district) tax dollars, as private schools typically educate for less money than the amount the State provides per pupil to local school districts. The popularity of private schools is causing much discomfort in the public systems. Public adminsitrators often call for eliminating parental choice as the solution. Who knows, maybe some public schools will be motivated to increase quality and reduce bureaucracy as a result.
